Bad Brains updates: side projects, release plans, website launched

With two new releases coming in the next few months, the Bad Brains have relaunched their official website and posted a number of updates on their current projects. The band will soon be releasing their new album via Megaforce. The record is titled Build a Nation and is due out soon. It will be preceded by the May 01, 2007 release of Omega Sessions as part of Victory's new vinyl series.

Bassist Darryl Jenifer has wrapped up the first release from his solo project Vovasonic. The disc is scheduled for a May release on Roir. Daryl is also working on the upcoming sophomore full length from Juno-winning Canadian reggae/ska act Bedouin Soundclash. HR continues to work on his Human Rights project and is performing in the DC area.

The band promises further updates, noting:

We want to make this a great 'official' site and will continue posting news, tour dates, and archives. There are some nice un-official sites on the web that are an inspiration and we hope to add a valuable source to all our fans.

That album was released on Victory YEARS ago when the band really wasn't doing much unless you consider the horrible God of Love album on Madonna's label. Victory released it back when the label wasn't so schlocky if you can believe that.

Definitely check out the history section of their website. It is pretty thorough and doesn't hide the fact that the band could've been huge had the been focused on the same thing. I still like this band with the exception of their shitty releases.

Well yeah it doesn't say that. It doesn't reference much of their rasta religion or the rasta beliefs. Not that I'm making excuses for him at all. If you're just going by the music history alone, it's well-written without getting in other areas such as the homophobic issues that will forever haunt the band no matter how great their new album is.

They're not the Soul Brains anymore? And my thinking is that this will suck - it'll be the "Weirdness" of hardcore. Basically, I don't think anything will be able to recapture the brilliance of those first 2 or 3 albums. Plus, there's like a million fast hardcore bands now, and a million hardcore bands with reggae songs, so it's not like there's anything new here. Meh.

Yeah, I love "Black Dots" and "I Against I", but I have a feeling this will be more "God of Love".

i'm just curious because I haven't heard anything worth mentioning that compares to Bad Brains punk/reggae combo outside of Sublime.

The new song "Universal PEace" is fucking great though....and it sounds a lot like "Re-Ignition".....I think this album is going to be very similar to that album....which is just fine with me. It won't be a return to their early hardcore days...but instead a return to what is equally wonderful in my opinion- "I Against I".

I'm gonna have to say all three are equal in their own way....but personally I'll take Flag....but add Flipper in there and you'd be listing my top four favorite bands.

Check out the song off the new album on the Henry Rollins radio show, it pretty much kicks major ass.
The one song alone makes up for Rise and God Of Love.
