Courtney Love plans Christie‘s Auction of Kurt Cobain’s belongings

Courtney Love, widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, says she plans to sell most of his belongings. Courtney told Spinner.com about the plans:

I'm going to have a Christie's auction. [My house] is like a mausoleum. My daughter doesn't need to inherit a giant ... bag full of flannel ... shirts. A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to `(Smells Like) Teen Spirit' - that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just ... sell.

Everyone's been positive and behind me on it. We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity.

I still wear his pajamas to bed. How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pajamas?

Love has been at odds with Cobain's former bandmates and has often come into conflict with fans of the legendary band.

i'll agree somewhat. i remember seeing 'smells like teen spirit' on mtv's 120 minutes or something late night and thinking it had potential because of the heavy parts. but that didnt last long. it just didnt stick with me. most of the handful of "punk/hardcore" kids i knew didnt seem to be into them either.

Nirvana were a real tight band with great songs.They had a great sound and were original, there were a lot of us who loved punk who thought Bleach was awesome and I heardNeverminnd when it was less than a week old. Every song was good. There was a lot of crossover then. Not just thras metal/hardcore crossover either. I first read a review(a postive one I might add) for Bleach in Maximum Rock n Roll,which is before Tim Yo hannon got his "IT HAS TO BE PUNK" ass-rash. They would review Fluid,Afghan WHigs,Sonic Youth seven incehs. Mock "alternative" marketing frenzy if you must, but that shit had some great bands. Mudhoney,Psychefunkapus,old Primus,My Bloody Valentine,THE FUCKING MELVINS, Teenage Fanclub, Gish era Smashing Pumpkins, FUGAZI ANYONE???? A lot of people ape off of "Seinfeld" and claim the 90's were "about nothing" but It was a musical free for all. I miss it

Long rant, but I agree. People need to consider the history of the music to place a particualr album in context. Bleach and Nevermind fit the into an underground scence that went against a lot of the mainstream, corporate music industry of the time. Cobain admitted to loving the Melvins and wrote Nirvavna's music as a reposne to 1980's hair bands and shit rock.

I got into an argument with a friend last night who was trying to tell me that Nirvana was revolutionary. I made the argument that it easily would have been someone else if it hadn't been for them, and music wouldn't be terribly different today if it hadn't been for them. The only thing they really did was give major labels the balls to take some risks on "edgier" bands.

ive got an idea. maybe nirvana isnt the best band ever, but i think for a lot of people including myself it was the first band that i really got into and maybe this is a way of being a little bit less of a crazy cunt and is actually sharing a little bit of his belongings with fans since shes been withholding the majority of their unreleased material since he died. i could be wrong but who knows.
