Green Day's cover of John Lennon's track "Working Class Hero" is now available for preview or purchase via iTunes. As announced in early March, the song is the second high profile cover from the band, as they previously worked with U2 to record a song to benefit Katrina victims.
The band is also producing a video with director Samuel Bayer, Bayer was also responsible for the band's videos from American Idiot. Shooting is expected to begin this week. This cover, along with others from Black Eyed Peas, The Cure, Jack Johnson and Willie Nelson will appear on Instant Karma, a new benefit for Amnesty International's campaign to end the Darfur genocide. Though the United Nations has not been willing to describe the Darfur conflict as a genocide, it is well established that at least 400,000 people have been killed, with an addition 2.5 million displaced by the conflict between the Janjaweed and Fur, Zaghawa, and Massaleit ethnic groups. You can preview or purchase the song via this link. Green Day (76 comments)

So let me get this straight, Green Day is against sending troops to Iraq, but wants the UN to interfere with the Darfur situation. How does that make any Goddamn sense? 3+ Replies

My father has been a steelworker and member of the United Steelworkers of America for 25 years. I'll be sure to tell him that during the next contract negotiation when the corporation that he works for tries to fuck the members again to look to Green Day for inspiration. Propaghandi wrote "Rock for Sustainable Capitalism" for chodes like Green Day. Has Billy even ever had a job? 3+ Replies

Green Day's cover of 'Working Class Hero' was AMAZING. I love The Beatles and Lennon, and I'd say Green Day did this song great justice -especially adding the last bit of the original song at the end as a homage. Green Day did this for a good CAUSE, and you people seem to be forgetting that; there's no ploy for attention and they're not being fake about it. Green Day are the ones who teach people NOT to be fake; to be themselves. I agree with (whoever said this in an earlier post) that all you who hate "new Green Day" or "Reprise Green Day" would LOVE them and American Idiot if they were still on Lookout! Do you know how immature and ridiculous that is? I quote Elvis Costello (from Dookie: Ultimate Albums) "It's like buying a box of cereal and eating the cardboard." A band can't stay the same in the way they sound ("GO BACK TO DOOKIE!" for exam show rest of comment 1+ Reply
