Kevin Seconds' new band the Altruistics to play first show

Kevin Seconds (of 7 Seconds, funny enough) will debut his new band this Saturday, June 10th, in Sacramento. The band is called the Altruistics and will feature Brian Hanover (Hanover Saints/The Wounds), Shawn Hale (Daycare, The Jacks) and Steve Smith (ex-Army Of Trees). The band will take the stage at Old Ironsides to support long running punk band the Avengers and Sacto's Last Chance.

I love 7 Seconds & I have to admit even though you're not suppose to like their alternative rock sounding albums, I liked Soul Force Revolution a lot. there I got it out. The Crew is still one of the best punk records of all time!

I like Soulforce Revolution too, I haven't heard any of their other albums that have that sound though.

Actually he owns a coffee shop and host live music there.Whether he is a legend or not is not the point.The point is he still supports the local and national music scene and still playing.At least he isn't pulling the reunion card he hasn't quit and you gotta respect that.

Punk Legend? I think so. 7 Seconds was the first hardcore band in the United States and the second in the whole world (DOA was the first). Dude still supports local music like none other. What, punk legends aren't allowed to own coffee shops? Idiot.

More like Middle Class and Bad Brains were the first U.S Hardocore bands. First wave of hardcore maybe...

Bad Brains didn't fall under the label of hardore until maybe the mid eighties and even then they didn't like to be called hardcore. The word hardcore started being applied to music with DOA's Hardcore '81 release. 7 Seconds quickly applied the term hardcore to the music they played too, making them the 2nd band to call themselves hardcore. Bad Brains definitely contributed to what would become the hardcore sound but never got labeled as such until a little later. Middle Class certainly also contributed to what would become hardcore but the term didn't come along until Middle Class was on their way out.

Brian from the Hanover Saints is a good guy. 7 Seconds put on one of the best shows I've seen in years just last year. Better than when I saw them in the 80s actually.

first off anything kev puts out is bound to be some interesting, high quality stuff no matter if it's punk, pop or his acoustic shit. there have been a few stinkers along the way, but the guy has always written excellent songs and i will check out whatever he does. i'm stoked to hear he's got a new punk outfit and i even like the name. i recall him posting samples of some material he was calling the laugh riots awhile back. wonder if it's the same style. if so, it's pretty influenced by older stuff like stiff little fingers and the clash and not so much faster hardcore shit and i dug it.

and who wouldn't be stoked to have a legend serving up a cup of joe :)
