Media: Avenged Sevenfold: "Critical Acclaim"

Avenged Sevenfold have posted the first single from their upcoming record. The song, "Critical Acclaim" is expected via iTunes on August 28th. The record itself is titled Avenged Sevenfold and is due out October 16, 2007. It is the follow-up to City Of Evil which was released in 2005

Rolling Stone gave the last album a 3/5, as did Sputnik Music. I don't have any subscriptions to metal zines, but I'd say most people find them pretty mediocre.

The song actually appears 4 times on the album, as part of a new image campaign.
Now they can said "New Avenge Sevenfold Album, loaded with Critical Acclaim".
Other titles included, as part of the image campaign, include: "Functional knowldege of current politics", "Totally not a Guns 'n Roses Ripoff", "Best rock album of the year - Rolling Stone" and "Most likely never had sex with dudes (that you can prove)".

I have to say, that joke was written in two parts, before and after taking a shit.
I can see now, reading it over, that the "pre-shit" part of the joke was good but I was obviously in a rush as the grammar is horrible. The "post-shit" part ("totally not a Guns n' Roses Ripoff" and on) is good, but a little too long in the titles, but it's better in it's phrasing.

Basically, my turtle head is the reason for the poor grammar and spelling, my bad.

Well, you see, what happens is: in the studo, the singer sings each line of a song about a dozen times. The engineer takes each best sounding line (in ProTools most likely) and cuts and pastes them into 1 complete song. Then the engineer adds A LOT of effects and manipulates the voice so that it sounds just like all the other current 'metal' singers.

What the hell happened to the singers voice? A lot of smoke and mirrors my friend.

...and you can alter the pitch,making bum notes a thing of the past. Thus the reason a lot of singers sound like shit live, I think the worst I've ever seen were finch, the dude spectacularly avoided the correct key for a whole set.

I tried to listen to this with an open mind. I hated it and coming from a band who calls their second major label release Avenged Sevenfold, I'm not surprised. I didn't intend to hate the song as most people on this site can't stand them and I completely get that. How or why this is even punk news to begin with is beyond me.

What and you're going to tell me the excuse for punk that the majors have been shoving down our collective throats is "punk" The last great punk album was Refused, The shape of punk to come. Then the homo/emo/screamo bois and trogladites of the whole dying movement bastardized that sound and mixed it with one part saves the day and a heaping scoop of mono key signature Thursday lyrics. Granted some of the emo/screamo bands can really play their instruments but ripping off iron maiden licks from the pages of Guitar player by learning how to read tab hardly makes you a vituoso.
Punk has its place in the musical spectrum. A7X isn't punk. It's hardcore melodic metal with classicly trained musicians who WORKED HARD at their craft. Sure you hear GnR, Vai, Metallica, and Motley Crue influences. All of those bands were hard working at a grass roots levels to build a following an

The best band in the history of rock. I liked City of Evil stuff better than this song but it is still extremely original. Great sound. The only reason you punk loving metal haters don't like them is because any song that doesn't simply repeat chorus verse over and over again is too difficult for you to comprehend. Or maybe because they write songs that last longer than 3 minutes...is it too tough for you to wrap your little minds around??

There are plenty of bands that I think totally suck but I never have the desire to hate them....like I think basically all punk sucks because it is repetitive and the only skill necessary is to have a drummer in shape enough to play really fast the whole song...it all sounds the same!

a7x music sometimes lies between punk, emo, hard rock and metal, thats why we cant really say they belong in one specific genre because their not.......they made somewhat there own type of music, much of it because of their different influences, so there is nothing wrong about them appearing on sites like punknews

and about the song...it is what they wanted to write and it showed how they feel about the war, like so many artist have been and are still doing.......so if u dont like it dont listen to it, simple as that
