Veteran skate-punks Pennywise will reportedly be trying something new with their upcoming album. The band has teamed up with social networking powerhouse MySpace and Textango, a mobile music distributor to release their album free.
According to the report, when the album is released in March 2008, it will be available through traditional retail channels, or people can go to the MySpace profile of Textango which will allow them to download the entire album for free. The promotion is the first test by MySpace if there can be an alternative for bands to the current distribution model. You can read more about the plan here. Pennywise released their previous album, The Fuse, in 2005. MySpace Records (84 comments)

These people are idiots. First you start off selling CDs for $15 then you go to digital media for free but you have to add some friend to your myspace and probably get spyware AIDS. Just sell the digital CD for $3-5. You make money directly and you don't force people to get their computer infested with AIDS.

So does this mean they're going to stop writing the same exact song over and over again? Pennywise blows....

Wow, I've never seen so much hate this is ridiculous.
Every Pennywise albums sounds the same? They even say in their interviews, changing a bands sound is for sideprojects, which I agree with 100%. Pennywise are one of the pioneers of modern day skate punk music, a style few bands hardly even play anymore because its not "marketable" enough. You really want them becoming Thrice, Brand New, Blink 182, Mest, AFI, Saves the Day? A band that changes their sound with whatever is currently trendy, and basically denies their roots? Fuck that. To me an artist has to be energetic and passionate about what they are writing and playing, otherwise what's the point? I believe Pennywise are passionate about what they do. They have a loyal fan base for the past 15+ years. Why fix something that's not broken? Did Bad Religion? Did NOFX? Or even th show rest of comment | Features
