Against Me! recently visited The Interface to record an acoustic set and interview for the Spinner program. Along with the performance of "New Wave," "Thrash Unreal," and "The Ocean," the band talks about reinventing Axl Rose and touring with the Foo Fighters.

i'm 42 and after a stress-free breakup went from 180 to 220 pounds. i've stopped losing weight but i am now really really flabby. how can i harden up. crunches seem to be impossible due to the large gut I now have and it really is that much. i drink a lot of crisco. is my only option to quit all the crisco. I can't run anymore. Not even 4 miles 5 times a week. any suggestions on how to stop from getting so fat that I need a scooter to go grocery shopping and get a little more hard/lean? Seriously, I can't see my penis anymore and that makes me sad.

depends on if the interviewers ask him interesting questions. You don't have to like the direction his music has taken, but if you resort to criticizing him over random interviewers lobbing him boring and repetitive questions, you're just begging for reasons to complain.

He's stoked that there's been a lot of acclaim for New Wave, he was startled by playing arenas every night with the Foo Fighters, and when asked how he would reinvent Axl Rose I don't think he did enough reinventing. Then he said he was a big fan of Axl.

The "Thrash Unreal" acoustic video is pretty damn intense. I also never realized how chunky the other vocalist really is.

Am I the only one to think Against Me! is the best band going right now in punk, (maybe the Gaslight Anthem in a couple years?) and that EVERY record they've put out since "Crime" has been nothing short of amazing?

best "punk" band right now, no. They've always been a great band but there are easily about 20 more "punk" bands I'd rather see live or listen to then them.

"Best Mainstream Band" is very subjective and i'm sure many people would argue other bands on radio are superior to Against Me.

For myself, I give that title to Deftones.

I was impressed with the performance until I heard the blatant autotuning at one point.

Please point out the seconds during which the autotuning is so obvious. I listened to all of their acoustic renditions, and none of them sounded like they had been retouched. It's a noncommercial live session and an interview. There is exactly zero reason for them to mix the soundboard recording.

there are realtime autotuners in both pedal and rack form that provide instant pitch compensation. the best one out there is only about 739 dollars new last i checked.

Last chorus, the one time that both Tom and harmony sing "away-ay-ay-ay-AYYYY". The jump in Tom's voice the last "ay" is I would say, blatantly, auto-tuned ladies and gentlemen.

And I don't think the whole track is auto-tuned, but that part is, for sure.

It's not a terrible thing (auto-tuning). I understand band's do it. Shit, I do it.
The last verse is very impressive with how high he's singing.
I just thought the entire set would be as, true should I say?

Major labels (it seems like) require auto-tuning on live takes. Take for instance Taking Back Sunday on the AOL sessions and Weezer on the same. Don't TRY to tell me those aren't auto-tuned.

I really like "The Ocean," but can someone explain the lyrics to me? Does Tom really wish he was a woman? Is the song a story that I missed? It seems like a pretty bold statement to make about oneself that you wish you were the opposite gender...

And please, no snarky comments on this one. Tom Gabel is gay, etc...it's all way too easy given the words of the song.

i dont know what you people are talking about, but this sucks just like everything on the studio New Wave did. I do find it interesting to hear what Gabel has to say though. I honestly have never heard him speak, ive only read interviews they've done. Is it just me or was anyone else completely surprised to hear the sound of Gabel's normal talking voice compared to his singing? they're like completely different. He looks like a fragile child in this interview, wadafuxup?
