Russ Rankin, vocalist for Only Crime and formerly Good Riddance, has announced a solo project. His first post song is a cover of Johnny Cash's "Walk The Line." According to the MySpace page, Rankin "is currently working on a brand new collection of his own songs which will be released as a solo project sometime in the near future."

i don't know how i feel about this undeniable trend of (as stated prior) "frontmen going solo." It was cool when chuck ragan, chris mccaughan (sundowner), joey cape...etc did it, because it genuinely felt sincere, and like they were trying to branch out into a genre that they had yet to dip their toes in that had clearly influenced them, but now with people like the fuckin lead singer from thrice trying this shit and mike hale from gunmoll (who were awesome for the record), it's just getting fucking desensitized. Russ Rankin is a man who has undoubtedly been a huge push foward for punk rock, but seriously a fucking cover of Cash's "walk the line?"..... doesn't get much more generic then that. |
