Kevin Lyman, Brett Gurewitz, Tom Delonge, Joe Escalante plan Warped roundtable

Kevin Lyman will be kicking off the 2008 edition of the Warped Tour with a open roundtable discussion. Along with Kevin, the evening will also feature Epitaph Records founder Brett Gurewitz (also of the band Bad Religion), Joe Escalante (The Vandals, Kung Fu Records founder), Tom DeLonge (Angels and Airwaves and Modlife founder), Philip Sneed (Story of the Year) and Max Bemis (Say Anything)

The event takes place June 12 at the Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA.

Epitaph sold part of themselves to Warners from what I've always understood, therefore they're a major label and in the past when it's come up, people get all mad about it. I don't think Dexter would say it if it weren't true as he'd be sued for slander right?

Not to say this excuses him in any way if all of that is true, but just for a bit of context, let's all remember that this was right about the same time Brett was developing a little HEROIN HABIT. Please, point out anything in that letter Dexter Holland says Brett did that is questionable from a business standpoint.

What if Brett was meeting with all those companies just to have some fun. Bottomline is he didn't sell Epitaph, he promised The Offspring a big advance and great royalty rates. Holland's complaints about appearing on whatever compilation is a joke (refer to great royalty rates again).

Don’t you think that any potential sales offers towards the label would have been severely reduced once the Offspring announced they were leaving? Mr. Brett has always been a shrewd businessman, who's out to make money (not that i'm holding anything against him for that), a glance at any recent Epitaph signings is an indication of that.

No % of Epitaph was ever owned by Warner. There was some weird deal where Rancid signed to Warner, and then put there last album out with the help of Warner, but credited it to Hellcat.

Has anyone checked out the lead signer of Jugheads Revenge myspace or his personal website?

The guy said that Dexter holland is the biggest crook in punk music and screws over bands on a regular basis. He also said that Dexter left them to hang when they were sued by Archie comics; and he's a big reason they broke up as a band.

Last I read he's writing a book about how crooked and under-handed the whole buisness of "punk" is.

My reaction at 15 years old hearing "Go Ahead Punk...": "Wow, every band on here is good but Jughead's Revenge!"

That sucks though for them though, and I'm sure Dexter Holland ain't captain clean with his business ethics, however, I personally know people in a band "screwed over by Nitro" and they did it to themselves.

Maybe if musicians in general weren't such fucking prima-donnas these days and realized that the star high school quarterback might be sitting on the bench in the big leagues, they'd learn to get around major issues and stick it out for the sake of music.

"In 2003 ex-Vandals members Steven Jensen, Jan Nils Ackermann, Chalmer Lumary, and Steve Pfauter initiated legal actions against Escalante, alleging that he had mismanaged the band's back catalogue and had withheld royalties that were owed them. Jensen and Ackermann asserted that most of the songs on Peace Thru Vandalism, which had since been reissued with the credit "all songs by Joe Escalante," had been written before he joined the group.[1] Escalante stated that Epitaph Records had relinquished the copyrights and master tapes to him, and that the older members had relinquished control of the band's name and rights in exchange for permission to play an "original Vandals" reunion show. Now THIS I can get behind. Escalante is nerd and he doesn't seem at all responsible for the charm and writing ability of either incarnations of The Vandals. Dexter, Brett, and whoever else can be debated, but I've never heard anything but bad things about Joe.
