Tours: The Effigies / EPD / Government Warning

Chicago's Effigies have announced a short tour this month in support of their new album, Reside. The album marks the band's first full-length release since their 1986 LP, Ink and all area dates are the band's first area appearances since their final 1988 tour. The reunited band features three quarters of the original lineup including, John Kezdy (vocals), Steve Economou (drums) and Paul Zamost (bass). Guitarist Robert McNaughton – a well-known film composer whose credits include Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer – joined upon the band's reformation in 2004.

Government Warning is going to blow them off the stage. I'm a pretty big Effigies fan but they're pretty stale live and they play for too long. Not to mention it's virtually the same set list every time.

i gotta say, i saw Government Warning at this year's Youngblood Showcase and they weren't exactly the most exciting band there. i was pretty pumped about seeing them, but they took fucking forever to set up and then they just seemed to play with less energy than i thought they would. still a cool band though.

I saw Government Warning at Albion House here in Chicago a couple years back and it was face melting. One of the best shows I've ever seen.

Yeah, that was definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen. When they closed with that Adolescents cover, the microphone shocked my face so much that my mouth was red for a few days afterwards but I simply didn't care.

Also, I really love the Effigies on record, but I can't stand seeing them live again. I hear all of these stories about how intense they were live back in the 80's and I just don't see it. It seems like they're going through the motions or something. It's not like they need to do this, they're all pretty successful outside the band (John Kezdy is a D.A.) so why not just have fun?
If you haven't seen it, keep an eye out for the DVD of "You Weren't There: Chicago Punk 1979-1986." It's an interesting look at the evolution of the scene here.

Agree'd, they play here in Rockford, IL every other month or so and it is fucking lame after the first time seeing them. oh well.
