Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel talks elections, the meaning of punk, 2008 tours

Gainesville, FL's Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel recently checked in from their ongoing Warped stint to share his thoughts on the elections, what punk means to him, and revealed upcoming tour plans throughout the year, including Canada, France dates as well as the Revival Tour.

He would never. He actually is one musician I have no problem saying that they have integrity. His musical output has been genius. Between Chisel and his work with The Pharmacists I can easily say he is one of, if not the best song writer around right now. He deserves all the praise he gets.

honestly i dunno. i have a few things i'd ask him about a cutting off his nose to spite his face sort of mentality, but i really have little to no interest in the man so i can't say i'd care to get to know him.

i just think if you're going to take time out of your life to interview someone, it seems pretty stupid to ask questions like "what was it like touring with the foo fighters?". how is that relevant at all to anyone besides gabel? why do we care? why should we? it's an example of a question that is simply there to create entertainment, not report anything.

I got to talk to David from Big D after the Goldfinger/Less Than Jake/Big D/ show in Toronto on Wednesday. He’s a really down to earth guy, says they’re hitting the studio in September with either Joe Gittleman again, or some old friend of theirs who’s suddenly becoming a “big name”, so can’t wait. Big D were as tight as hell live, and Goldfinger/Less Than Jake were a blast, I doubt I’ve ever had more fun at a show. Oddly enough however the

He performed pretty much by himself at the Warped in Orlando since their drummer is injured apparently. All I could think as I was walking by not really caring is that everyone on this site would be jerking off if they were there.

Someone on another forum said that Tom came out and did a song, then another, and then another. Then announced that it would be an acoustic set because their drummer "tore a ligament." Not sure what ligament where or how severe it was. Keep in mind that I can't confirm that part of the story but they did do an all acoustic set in Orlando.

Look at it on the bright side maybe your sister will move away from shittier bands through Against Me!. While I don't think AM! will exactly open the door for her to start blaring "My War" by Black Flag through the house, it could be a step in the right direction.

And herein lies the problem with kids these days. Not that these are unimportant issues, but the complete lack of acknowledgement of two most important perennial issues that affect the largest number of people really says alot.

It's a real tell tale sign of the period of unprecedented priviledge that we've all grown up in that these issues are the first that come to mind when people talk about what issues are on the front of their minds for the next election.
