The Riptides enter Hockey Night in Canada theme challenge

Ottawa's Riptides have submitted a theme to the CBC's Hockey Night In Canada Anthem Challenge. You can check it out the 30 second instrumental "Get In The Rink" here or check out the supporting Facebook group.

Earlier we reported that Graeme MacKinnon from Edmonton's The Wednesday Night Heroes Wilfred Kozub from Wilfred N and The Grown Men had also participated. Their entry can be heard here.

Earlier this year the CBC lost the rights to the iconic and instantly recognizable theme song to their Hockey Night In Canada television program. They've since opened up a competition to Canadians to create a new theme, with heavyweights like Burton Cummings competing against basement musicians across the country. The entrants can be previewed and commented upon here.

As a Montreal Canadiens fan who had to put up with their terrible announcing through two rounds of the playoffs, I'd take Millen in a heartbeat. There is a huge difference between bad movies and movies that upon viewing actually transform you into as asshole. Take MST3K for example, they take laughably bad movies and give them that little twist that is only possible with 3 cases of beer and a room of friends.

Movies such as 'meet the spartans', 'disaster movie', etc... Are the cinematic equivalent of Carrot Top or the open-mic night comedians that just pull the "hey remember this..." Bullshit.

A horrible death awaits their creators.

I think what I like most about older schlocky b-movies is that someone had to fucking BELIEVE in it. Now any dipshit with a backyard and some video cameras from Best Buy can make a movie that doesn't look completely terrible.

But back in the day, you had to find some crazy businessman with too much money too spend, throw in some titty, make it over the top and AWESOME, hire community theater actors, rent real equipment. People had to fucking CARE.

And to me, that's the difference between crap like Cheerleader Autopsy and the insanely greatly awful Werewolf Vs. Vampire Women.

the main thing i find about these movies is that they the spoofs are movie specific (and aren't funny but that's another story) and will likely be out of date within a year. older spoof movies seemed to be more universal and many of them (top secret, airplane, kentucky fried movie) still hold up. even the scary movie series, at least the first 2, hold up as being funny still.

They don't lose any money, they actually make alot whether the movie is good or not. The fact of the matter is that compared to most movies they cost almost nothing to film or produce. The marketing is the only expensive thing. No big shot actors, no competent special effects team, it's really all pretty generic shit. No matter how shitty it is, though they know people are gonna go see them. It's inevitable. People waste their money on stupid bullshit that doesn't benefit them. Like cigarettes. Or mcDonald's. they're making a pretty good profit, and as long as they do shitty movies (that weren't intended to be good anyway) are gonna keep being filmed.

Just to add more to the movie talk, I just saw Son Of Rambow. I thought it was really good. If you're in the mood for a feel good movie with some great laughs and imagination, I'd say it's a good one to get. It's kinda similar to Second Hand Lions if you've seen that one.

I love movies, back to the b-movie talk. Its mostly why I hate modern action films and remakes. Take 'Them' or 'the incredible shrinking man' the story had to be great because they knew they had shabby special effects. Those work perfectly, easy to suspend belief.

Modern shit like 'day after tomorrow' wow great some nerd made a snow storm in a computer, doesn't make it cinema worthy. Fuck them.

I hope everybody associated with the 'day the earth stood still' remake gets cancer of the asshole and face and dies. That is one of the best things ever and they shit all over it. That trailer makes no sense. Just make another movie and call it something else. I feel the same way about 'I Am Legend'.

Yeah Second Hand Lions is the one with Haley Joel whatever-his-last-name-is. I liked SHL because it reminded me of when I was a little one hanging out with my grandfather on my family's farm in Texas. Plus how can you go wrong with Michal Caine and Robert Duvall?

If you ever pretended to be Rambo as a kid, I'd say watching Son Of Rambow is worth it. Plus there are some adult themes that are really strong. One example, friendships can form no matter what the status/background of people. Also, the two lead kids really did a great job acting.

I agree with you on modern remakes and just stupid movies like The Day After Tomorrow in general. Sometimes I love watching movies with computer effects like Transformers (story pretty much sucked, but the visuals were cool), but if they can pull off having something real (kinda how Guillermo Del Toro has brought back the idea) it's much better.

The first Jaws is my favorite movie of all time. I have a scene from it tattooed on my arm.

I saw Jaws 3-D in the theatre, its not very good, but a movie where sharks eat people is better than none at all. Plus that movie was originally titled Jaws: 3, People: 0. That's stupid. Jaws the revenge sucks, just tivo the last 16 minutes and watch one of the greatest filmed trainwrecks in history. Regardless of which ending you get, they are both set to ludicrous speed.

The three of us had enough alcohol for ten men, and it still wasn't enough to make that shitfest watchable. We also rented Spymate on a whim--yes, that's spy + primate, and it's exactly what it sounds like--and it was infinitely better than Spartans.

Yeah totally.

What you can do is look to portioning. Instead of eating one full meal, cut it in half and make two meals out of it but have them 5-6 times a day. If that takes up too much time, you could use meal replacements. You can buy them at GNC, they consist of a good proportion of carbs-fat-protein and are only about 350 calories. What eating small, portioned out meals will do is speed up your metabolism.

I also completely recommend weight lifting. This is also another activity that burns calories but will also help you keep any muscle you have without burning it (as long as your eating enough protein). When someone cuts down, they lose fat first but if someone is losing more than 2 lbs a week, muscle is also being lost. By working out and eating protein, you will limit your amount of muscle loss and build muscle in the future once you decide to bulk up. For weight lifting, it either comes to bulking up or cutting down. You can't usually build muscle if you're not consuming enough calories. Except for when beginners first start working out. For some reason, first-time lifters often experience muscle growth and fat loss for the first month or so. So I'd recommend wight lifting.

Beer is a complete killer. I'm striving to be down to 10% body fat myself but beer has nothing but empty calories. I'm a college student so I know what it's like to have a drinking lifestyle. Cut to light beers like Bud Select. But honestly, I'd stick to hard liquor instead. It often has less calories than beer does and you get drunk faster. If liquor is your plan of attack, stay away from fruit-based liquors or sweet liquors (snapps, whisky, Baileys) and shoot for Vodka or Gin. If drinking, try not to add things like grenadine or juice. Those two are full of calories and carbs.

If you're completely sincere about it, cut off beer all together. Water is the best drink you can have. Not only does it hydrate you (great for flushing your system out) but it has absolutely no calories). Sodas and juices have many calories in them that people don't realize. You can also switch to eating lean meats like chicken, tuna, fish, or turkey instead of eating hotdogs and burgers.
