Zao recording with As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis

Zao is back in the studio working on a follow up to their 2006 Steve Albini produced full length The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here. The band is recording with As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis and Daniel Castleman, with Zao's Scott Mellinger rounding out the producion team. The lineup for the record will feature Mellinger on guitars, frontman Dan Weyandt, bassist Martin Lunn and drummer Jeff Gretz (From Autumn to Ashes). Scott commented:

We simply can not wait for everyone to hear these new songs. We have not been on the road since the Demon Hunter and Throwdown tours in 2006, which has given us plenty of time to get our wits about us and to really concentrate on creating the best batch of material we possibly can.

The album will be released by Ferret Music in 2009.

The original All Else Failed and Splinter Shards and the Birth of Separation are the only decent records this band has produced.

Basically what I'm trying to say is Zao without Shawn Jonas is massive fail.

whatever, zao was never erally that good. not that AILD are incredible or anything, but zao is nothing special.

Zao are pretty influential, whether they are good or not. I mean, its one of the few bands that actually stuck together (albeit with no original members) from Earth Crisis era metalcore to now.

I'm completely stoked. I've been on a crazy Zao kick lately. They last album "The Fear" is my all-time favorite record of theirs, and the first one I ever bought. I'm so glad they're making new music!

Zao also contributed a SICK Black Flag cover of "Black Coffee" to a tribute record, and it kills.
