Rise Against recently put together a list of the "12 Records That Changed the World" for IGN. The list includes albums from Dead Kennedys, Clash, Bad Religion, Fugazi, Jawbreaker, Minor Threat, The Who, Black Sabbath, The Ramones and Miles Davis along with commentary for each.

look, i really really love jawbreaker. but i really doubt that they "changed the world" or that that record had anything near the effect of kind of blue and the first black sabbath album. 9+ Replies

Ok, so who'd they forget? I'd say Bad Brains and Nirvana. 7+ Replies

The title of the article (Rise Against's "The 12 Albums that Changed the World") makes it sound a lot more self-important than it really is, which is just 12 albums Rise Against really likes. 2+ Replies

This is not Bill and Ted. Music is good, but never changed the world much. I would understand "change their lives" though. 1+ Reply

I have all of those, and the only ones that stick out are Zeppelin, Kind of Blue, and No Control. What about Miles Davis' Bitches Brew which is completely different music. It takes jazz and makes it fusion. Why not Bad Religion's Recipe for Hate? 5+ Replies

Don't understand how this is newsworthy. It's no different than one of us telling people what albums we like a lot. I guess it will maybe open the eyes of the kids who just know swing life away to some good music.

i saw these guys numerous times and most recently with alkaline trio and i have to say it was one of the most boring shows iv ever gone to.....

LMAO. Nearly all of these, they got a good band but the wrong album, who the fuck picks Plastic Surgery Disasters over Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables? Someone who just made a mediocre CD, that's who. 6+ Replies

I'm just so tired of punk bands pretending to be influenced by other music rather than punk. What normal teenage kid into punk rock seriously listens to the Who, Sabbath and Miles Davis. I wish people would stop pretending they have such a diverse selection of music that influenced their punk songwriting. 2+ Replies

Clearly this should have been titled: "12 Albums That Changed Their World." Most of the commentary was about either the album's influence on them or the music scene it came from. The whole Earth is a big place and I seriously doubt any of these albums had any great influence on world events since their publication. Although, I think I remember reading an article connecting America's involvement in Vietnam to the release of Led Zeppelin. Unless, they are saying that Rise Against is the world, which would be inexcusably arrogant.

What about Chuck Berry? Operation Ivy's Energy, which percipitated the ska sound? Social Distortion's Prison Bound, which fused the raw emotion of 2nd generation punk with the melodic meloncholy of blues (lyricly and musicaly)? | Features
