Blackball confirms wide release for Jawbreaker "Unfun" reissue

Adam Pfahler of Jawbreaker and Blackball Records emailed us about one specific part of the upcoming Unfun remastered reissue. Though earlier reports indicated that the album was to be limited to Hot Topic retail at release, this is no longer the case:

Unfun will be released to ALL retail stores at the same time, fair and square. Hot Topic will carry it-they have our other stuff, which is great if you don't have a mom and pop around and still like to have something in your hand to peruse. Or you can order it through Blackball.

Blackball previously reissued an expanded and remastered version of Jawbreaker's 1995 major label debut Dear You.

True, I check out the local Hot Topic every few months and peruse the clearance section. Bought a TLA cd for 3.99 a few years ago, and they always have shit marked down that no one else listens to (by no one else, I mean the hot topic demographic)

I couldn't get into Jawbreaker much when I first tried so many years ago. Found a used copy of Unfun few months ago and decided to give it try and liked the damn thing. Which album should I check out next, or are they drastically different than Unfun?

If you liked Unfun, I would recommend going in order of release. I tend to find myself listening to Dear You the most, but it's also the least alike sounding to Unfun.

My turntable is straight up fucked. It keeps speeding up and slowing down, making my Atom and his Package LPs sound like straight up psychedelic. I've contemplated replacing the motor, but think it might be more trouble than it's worth for an early 80s Sansui direct drive.

I'm way too poor to afford a new turntable.

Craigslist!!! I just got an almost mint condition Maganvox stereo with turntable and speakers for $30. It's fucking sweet!
Although I'm bummed that I can't use my nifty Misfits slipmat because it slows it down (anyone else have this issue?)

Hopefully the re-mastering doesnt change the sound.

Did you ever hear the Nitro re-mastered version of A.F.I's Answer That and Stay Fashionable? They totally made the drums louder and it just sounds all wrong.

If it was recorded shitty and that's how I've always heard it, then I don't want anyone fucking with it. I want albums to sound like I remember them sounding dammit!

I dont know, I always thought AK3's Goddamnit remaster turned out just right. The lows were turned up, so you could actually hear the bass drum and a few more bass parts than before. I ended up finding it very enjoyable.

I ripped my Wingnut version to my laptop, but I've played the Nitro one in my car a few times and yeah, it's crazy. I don't really mind it, though. I like that the drum and bass are up higher, because I LOVE that *boom boom* shit. If my car wasn't covered in stickers you'd probably think I was listening to hip-hop cuz of how much I got the bass pumped up.

heres the thing, i havent listened to a lot of jawbreaker. i do love chesterfield king though. are their songs mostly better than that one or not as good? just wondering how much of a hurry i should be in to check out more.

Definitely check out more. If you like Chesterfield King, go ahead and start with Bivouac.

Disagree. If you like Chesterfield King your best bet is to start with Unfun.
Bivouac is their most experimental album and really Chesterfield is the only song like it on there. It is my favorite of theirs though, and Chesterfield is my favorite song. Hmm.
