I dont feel the review section would be complete without someone saying something about this album. Yes, it was the first major label release by Jawbreaker, and their last release of new material as a band, but it still ranks in my top five albums I own. "Dear You" was also the bands first try at crystal clear production. It did cahnge the sound of the band a little(or a lot), but the songs are what really matter(although it would be cool to hear the same songs with the same production as on 24 hour or Bivouac). These Jawbreaker tunes are shining examples of the bands style. Some are upbeat punk rock songs with odd chord and tempo changes, and some are the heavier alt-rock that could be considered the "grandfather of emo" type songs.All the songs overflow with Blake's poetic and meloncholy lyrics. Some may seem overdone, but if I could convey what he does with my lyrics, I'd probably have a tendancy to overdo it at times myself. My favorite songs(if I have to pick) would be the opening anthem "Save your generation", the third track "Fireman", which I think has the best words to any Jawbreaker song, and "Accident Prone",a slower song that is soft and easy through some of it, and all out aggression in other parts.It also contains my favorite lines from any song,ever."I couldn't wait to breathe your breath,I cut in line I bled to death, I got to you there was nothing left." Other great songs are the rockin' "Chemistry", the story-telling punk song "Sluterring:May 4th", and the last track, which showcases every sound in the bands repituare, from saddened, slower easy listenin' to furious noise-core. Some say that the major label demons killed Jawbreaker, and I wouldn't totally disagree with that, but this album is completely amazing and a must have for any fan of good, loud, thought out music with meaning. Believe it or not, I bought it when it was first released way back when for only 8.99$, and it was even at somewhere like Camelot Music. To this date, I have yet to buy an album that has influenced my musical taste as much as "Dear You". If you can find it, attain it, by whatever means neccesary. agree completely with the reviewer! Great band, great album. I fell in love with Oyster. Amazing lyrics. If you hear this album 100 times it still won't be enough. This album has quite possibly some of the best lyrics through and through that I have ever had the pleasure of reading and listening to. The only problem with this album is that it at times is dull and I feel the double tracking on the vocals is often irritatingly off. Overall, a very good album and I highly recommend it to anyone that likes bands with deep, emotional writing. I'm so totally getting this not as good as UNFUN but not bad.....jawbreaker is rad just got this. it's great. This is my favorite Jawbreaker album. I love the re-issue. The re-issue is amazing. hahaahha....i love reading my comments weeks later....i can be such an asshole If you don't own all Jawbreaker's album, then you need to: Kick-ass album. I'm a little late getting into Jawbreaker (I first heard one of their songs [Chesterfield King] on the second Rock Against Bush comp.), but better late than never, I guess. I guess I got the re-issued version of Dear You, too, because my version has five other songs that I think weren't on the original pressing (Shirt, Into You Like a Train, Sister, Friendly Fire, and Boxcar), as well as the Fireman video. Best $14 I ever spent on a CD, and it was the last copy the place had in stock. Aren't I lucky? Awesome album from a classic band that has surely influenced tons of bands. We should restate every so often how fucking great this band was. MAY 4TH. MAY 4TH. For anyone wondering, interpunk now has this CD for I think $12. Just bought it, it's awesome. I got this album for a buck in a discount bin. This is it, THE album to fucking own. Get it. That is all. its bad that they broke up after this, but one has to think, how could they possibly top this record? I just got this album the other day. 7 years late, but i got it in New Zealand for $3, which is about $1.50US. WHAT A BARGAIN. This is probably one of the best cds I have ever heard. Blake's vocals are great and the lyrics are nothing short of brilliant. One of the things that really stick out in my mind is the chord changes on this, they are really original and sound awesome. It is a bummer that they went out after this one but I couldn't ask for a better finale. This album is the best. amazing album. everyone should get this. if u cant find it, burn it! i usually dont like burning cds but this is on a major, its impossible to find and it is one of the beat records ever made. This CD is most assuredly worth 5 stars. If you want to find a copy of it, go to http://www.chapters.ca or http://www.samtherecordman.com -- these are the Canadian equivalents of CDNow or Amazon.com. They can usually get you a brand new, Canadian copy of "Dear You" [which is basically identical to US version] for between 15-20 dollars US. It'll take a little while [SamTheRecordMan.com took like 3 months to get one to me], but omigod was it worth it. normally i wouldn't retaliate with such an immature statement as this, but you crossed the line this time. EAT SHIT DICKNOSE, JAWBREAKER IS AWESOME! Dear You can be ordered online at jetstobrazil.com! go there emidiately, buy this album, listen to it, and be enlightened. Unfortunatly. You'll have to find some other means of buying the album. They stopped pressing "Dear You". That's what ya get for being in a major label. i would like to apologize for my recent reviews. I was real drunk. I still love jawbreaker and lifetime, but those reviews dont really do them justice. get the albums, and realize for yourself, dont listen to my drunk ass. |
