There's a silver lining there. If you look at the "votes by age," 18-29 year olds voted against Prop. 8 by a 22-point margin. So as more and more of these hateful old fucks die off, the more likely it is that we'll see gay marriage in our lifetime.

I know. Pretty fucking ridiculous.

Because as we've seen from the last eight years, and in the 80's trickle down economics work. Asking the wealthy to pay their share is a fair request. He's not thinking some guy with $30,000 a year is going to create jobs but he will spend money and stimulate the economy. If you make $250,000 that extra $2,000 you saved on taxes probably is just going back into your pocket, not into stimulating the economy or job growth.

I understand your point however the wealthy already do pay A LOT dude. Take a family of 5 with two hard working career minded parents. Perhaps they make $250,000 a year. That seems like a lot but to be honest it’s really not. My wife and I make a total of $160,000 a year. We bought a small house last year…very modest. With property taxes in NJ the way they are we barely have enough to save. Everything is relevant. Hopefully in a few years we will be earning more and have kids. We work hard we both paid our way through college and will be paying off loans for what seems like forever. For us to be called “selfish” by Obama is crazy talk dude. My wife and I just want the best for our family. We worked hard for it.

First of a a working family of five would fall into a different tax category than a couple making $250,000 a year with no kids. Also, you and your wife making $160,000 a year shouldn't be impacted by Obama's tax plan.

I also don't get the, "I worked hard for it" shit. I work hard and went to college and so did my wife. We are home owners and are likely to fall into the "wealthy" category, so I don't get it from that angle. Additionally, I don't get it in that, I doubt many of the "wealthy" who will be impacted work harder than people I know who work two jobs, totaling over 70 hours a week.
But it must be hard to be terrorized by the tax boogy man.

If you make 160k in NJ and can't save you are an idiot. This is a fact. I come from a family who's overall income was somewhere in the 70-80k a year. Family of 4. 2 kids went to private schools and college. Own a 2500 sq ft house. Money is tight, but not in a "we shop at Walmart and have no money for anything", but in the "sorry, we don't have 3 60" LCD TVs and fancy new cars" sense.

Wrong. It takes time to develop ideas. It's not a coincidence that there was money to invest into the computer revolution of the 90s. Big corporations had money to spend on new technology to fuel Silicone Valley based on the economic policies of the 80s and early 90s. This allowed Silicone Valley to survive until the middle class got some tax cuts and bought up the technology in record numbers in the mid 90s.

I would disagree. I do accounting for the company I work for which is an S-Corporation which means that tax liability passes through to the owner even if the cash is kept in the business. The 5% increase in income tax and the 13% increase in social security tax by eliminating the cap will remove $200,000+ per year from our working capital.

This will beyond any shadow of a doubt reduce our ability to invest in new capital equipment and expand. Everytime we buy a new piece of equipment, we employ two more people with healthcare and retirement benefits. There is absolutely no question in my mind that this will hinder our ability to grow.

I couldn't disagree with you more. The average consumer is hurting right now. By reducing their tax burden, or even giving them a tax credit, you're allowing them to either pay their bills, or to buy that new fangled ipod. Either way, the money isnt going to sit idle. It's going into the economy in one way or another. Once people are caught up on their bills, they will begin spending it friviously like they always do and demand for products will pick up. Then the businesses will prosper.

iPods aren't even made in this country. That wealth gets shipped directly overseas as it is spent. Tax credits to consumers are nothing less than buying the vote. If they really wanted to stimulate the economy they'd be investing in infrastructure and other value added force multipliers.

The average consumer has almost no tax burden as it is. I make decent money relatively speaking and I pay hardly any tax. I think my effective tax rate is like 10% while the highest bracket already pays 35%. How are those people already not paying their "fair share"?

We live under a myth in this country that all high earners are wall street CEOs who worked out back room deals to get excessive compensation. Most high earners I know are entrepreneurs who started their own companies and created a pile of jobs for their town.

Because everyone who has more cash on hand than they do now (over 90% of Americans) will just put that money under their mattress and not spend it.

What the fuck good does creating more jobs do if people can't afford to pay for your good or service?

By the way, the tax rates under Reagan were also 39%. Is he a socialist as well?

For starters, his economic policy is to provide tax credits to businesses that create jobs in America. Second, the middle class are the largest group of actively spending consumers - in all commodities. Tax cuts for them will in turn stimulate the economy. You know; allowing them to buy groceries, gasoline and other necessities?

Furthermore, he's also giving tax credits to businesses which provide affordable health care plans to employees. That will in turn allow people to take jobs they normally couldn't afford to take, decreasing the unemployment rate and adding further revenue into the economy.

I am in the application process for peace corps now. one of my professors did it years ago (i think late 80's, maybe early 90's at best) and the readjustment bonus you get when you come back from service has only gone up $1000 which is chicken shit if you consider inflation since the time he went.
