In the wake of Illinois senator Barack Obama's historic win of the U.S. presidency on Tuesday, Alternative Press has collected the thoughts of over 15 musicians, including Dicky Barrett of the The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Wil Francis of Aiden, Al Barr of Dropkick Murphys, Fred Mascherino of The Color Fred, Tony Sly of No Use For A Name, Shane Told of Silverstein, Jonah Matranga of Far, Jeffree Star and more. Dicky Barrett noted:

my favourite statements were those of tony sly, and the colors fred guy. they gave realistic and also pretty mature and well thought opinions.

you guys should better be happy bout having a president which at least stands for a differnt brand of politics than your last one did. and even if you think of democrats as a more or less "light version" of republicans you should see the symbolism behind the american society voting for obama. this should give you hope regardless what political preferences you have.

I think what he meant by guilt by associationwas that just because his father was a member of the Irgun (freedom fighters or terrorists?) that somehow means that Rahmn is racist and anti-Palestinian, like you said. But, he isn't, of course, he's a Jew and he's critical of Palestinian suicide bombers and of their leaders who've supported terrorism.

Obama is also a big supporter of Isreal, which he has declared many times, so I don't see the controversy.

LA's great--I think it just infuriates tourists because there's no center for tourists to snap pictures and they get caught in all the traffic. (I've been thinking hard about this, and I'm not sure where all the tourists go to see shit, besides Hollywood Blvd, which is the LAST place you'll see anything interesting in LA).

Otherwise, there's great shit to do (music, art, sports, hiking, surfing, etc...) 7 days a week and awesome bars that give out free tamales on Election Night.

The only difference between those two indistinguishable big money candidates is one was the old guy and the other one was the one with the ears. Only total fucking morons think either one of those guys getting elected will make any change in business as usual washington. Can we start talking about bloody revolt yet or is it too soon still?

what i meant deals more with the choice the american society made and less with the programm the candidates offered. if we just stop dreaming of a different world for a moment and see that the world we live in is highly capitalistic with all it's dichotomies and inequality and due to economical facts mechanisms this won't totally change in the near future, you will realize that obamas election gave evidence of the american society being as liberal as we europeans always claim to be. but over here people would never ever make somone like obama their president.
