Riverdales working on new album, shows

In his latest podcast, Ben Weasel has confirmed that he will be once again teaming up with Dan Vapid to record a new record as the Riverdales. The band, formed in the 90s by members of Screeching Weasel released a 1995's Riverdales and 1997's Storm The Streets before splitting up. They reunited in 2003 to release Phase Three.

The band has not yet named a drummer for the forthcoming album, but plans are for a release in 2009 with some live shows to follow.

i saw this tour as well, in charlotte.

they frisked EVERYONE going in. i thought for weapons, but it turned out they were looking for cigarettes and lighters. the show was in the charlotte hornets training facility and i think they were afraid we'd fuck up the court.

Me too, man!! I just left a comment below about that tour before I saw your comment.

But I was at the show in Philly. It was my first show ever and I was 8 years old. I didn't know The Riverdales at the time, but they blew me away.

So they were the first live band I ever saw and I've been a huge fan ever since!

All I know was what he put his name to. Namely his old columns. He never had a bad word to say about them. I don't know anything about second hand information. Do I think it's possible he said both? Who knows, he's notoriously a dickhead.

My first show ever was Green Day and The Riverdales in '94. I was 8 years old so I didn't know who The Riverdales or Ben Weasel were yet, but they blew my mind. I've been a huge fan ever since!

Needless to say, I'm so excited by this news!!

awesome. i remember that tour.. they played two nights at brixton academy. i read an interview with weasel once and he said that it was that tour with green day that pretty much broke them up

Wow, I didn't know that at all. I never really knew much about their breakup. I'm guessing that tour broke them up because they got too much exposure and couldn't handle being a full-time band? I know Ben Weasel is always talking about how playing music isn't a job and all that bullshit.

with the exception of "back to you", i do not like this band. it comes off as ben weasel trying way too hard. the dan songs are pretty weak too, not on the level of ben though.

Is three chords trying too hard? Would you like them to tone it down? You can't get much more simple than The Riverdales. Music and melody.
