Converge plans 2009 release

Converge has posted an update on progress towards their next album for indie powerhouse Epitaph Records. The band said this:

We are currently writing for our new album, due out in 2009 on Epitaph (vinyl on Deathwish). We are also currently editing the upcoming "Thousands Of Miles Between Us" DVD for Deathwish. Shows? Some great plans ahead, news on those soon.

Along with writing the album, the band members are busy with a number of projects including [[Doomriders]], [[United Nations]] recording/production, Acid Tiger and more.

When has Converge ever had blood splatters on their cover art? Or anything generic on their covers at all? The only reason their art might look generic now is because Jake's done so many other band's artwork throughout his career.

And the lyrics have never once demeaned women. Maybe mourned their loss, defined them by their absence, or questioned why they left. But never anything along the lines of "You left me because you are a whore. I can't believe you would want to be in a relationship with anyone but me, that makes you a cunt." No, we have Daryl Palumbo for that, thankfully, because someone needs to say it.

I'm talking about Jake's profesional attitude and relationship with women. He and that Deathwish crew are some misogynist fuckers.

And yes, all of his artwork is generic and the same. Boring as fuck, cookie cutter scrapbook shit. Fuck those guys.

It took me a while before everything about the music began to really sink in, but now that it has, I really like everything about the band.

I always loved Jacob Bannon's sort of sloppy vocal delivery. I think it meshes really well with the chaotic feel of everything.

Plus their drummer writes some of the most interesting parts ever. "Distance and Meaning" off of Jane Doe has wicked solid drumming.

Bannon is easily the best vocalist of his time and this style of music. One of the best lyricists too. No contest. Together with the music, which is so much different in tone than contemporary "metalcore," Converge is easily the best band in the world.

I dunno about that, I found it funny when he's like "so this song is about pride and standing up for what you believe in" or whatever and then starts into incomprehensible screams that sounded like the previous song. I like the band, but that's kind of silly.

Yea the lyrics rarely seem to have anything to do with the sounds coming out of his mouth. But that's exactly what I like about him. His style is just pure catharsis.

Holy shit. 2009 is going to be the best year of my life. Thursday, Glassjaw and now this. I actually forgot Converge was on Epitaph through all the shit talking about the label. And now that Thursday's on there too, it is easily THE best label in the world, no matter what else they put out. They got the 2 best bands in the world right now.

I feel like my Converge tat is glowing with supernatural energy.

My favorite too man. They're all winners though. For a tat, as long as you don't get Jane Doe's face like the rest of the world anything will be awesome. Bane's tight, but I think Converge is the only band I could love enough to warrant the ink. Saw your Batman tat on your myspace, that is pretty awesome.

Anyway I'm thinking about what lyrics to get around the tat, because that shit is crucial.

I can't get into this band. The music is all challenging and chaotic and the vocals are loud and abrasive. Why can't every band just sound like Dillinger Four and Gaslight?

I'm really excited about this one, but I don't really know how the next album is going to sound. This, Starkweather, Portal, Ulcerate, and Agalloch pretty much guarantee that 2009 is going to be an amazing year in music (for me at least).

I'm surprised at all the hate being thrown at this band on here.

Since you broached the subject, my ranking is:

When Forever Comes Crashing>Jane Doe>No Heroes>Petitioning the Empty Sky>You Fail Me>Halo in a Haystack.

It can fluctuate depending on what I'm in the mood for, but WFCC is pretty much their best record imo. People always compare it unfavorably to PTES, which I can understand why, but I disagree strongly.
