To be honest, when I saw them live after the excessive amount of playing their record and the dick sucking, I got a little burnt out on it. PBC came out in like Feb., and I'm still not sick of it.

The '59 Sound is basically flawless though.

there both up high on my list but The Riot Before, Bridge and Tunnel, and Off With Their Heads all had great releases this year

Not forgetting Resignation Day too.

i love gaslight anthem as much as the next orger... but as of now i cant see them making their way into my top ten. definitely top 20, but there was an abundance of amazing albums released this year.. and 59 sound just didnt have that re-playability i look for when picking my favorite albums.

i just find it funny how some people think a punk band is automatically relevant (whatever that really means) once they've gained a following outside of punk culture. so much so that the listener didnt appreciate wooderson because it was a song released by the band before they were big outside of punk rock obscurity.

That happens a lot on my radio show, people will IM me and say "Play this band!" and I had already played them, which usually means they just tuned in and didn't hear it earlier. But the first one would be funnier.

I think they only post albums with over 9.0 ratings in best news music, etc. And of course it wasn't first or second, because regardless of quality, coldplay and wu tang are more well known.

If they couldn't admit to liking it, they would not have posted the review.

The lowest I've seen a "Best New Music" for was 8.3, and that was Tapes 'n Tapes (ugh...) but most cases its 8.5 and higher. Yet, to not even get a "Recommended" is pretty weak considering Gaslight is fairly new to the scene and this is their big breakout album. I've seen albums as low as 7.5 get more attention on their site. True, their review follows Coldplay and Wu-Tang, but you can't just give an 8.6 out on Pitchfork and bury it down below. I agree with the person below who thinks the reviewer had to push hard to get his piece published, especially after reading it and seeing he namedrops such un-Pitchfork-y bands like Social D and Alk3 in the review.

Also of note: They have yet to review the new Killers, Kanye, the Rivers Cuomo demo album 2 and Chinese Democracy. I think they are saving those bigger reviews to fill the holes during the holiday break or

Its probably something like the reviewer had to push the editors really hard to even publish the review. How many months has it been since it was released? The reviewer probably had to do a fair amount of convincing that TGA would fit the "aesthetic" of Pitchfork.

That said, I still don't get the fascination with this band.

Well I think they have a habit of taking months to publish reviews of artists that aren't at the top of every hipster's charts. They posted a review for Devon William's "Carefree" a few months after the album was released. Pitchfork didn't seem to be Osker fans, FWIW.

Does anyone know how the ratings are decided on Pitchfork? Like, does the reviewer pick whatever he/she wants, or is at average of everyone on staff rating it? The reason i wonder is because the scores are so specific tat it would make sense that it's a committee thing.

Oh, and I thought it was weird that it didn't make best new music, either. I'm curious is it will show up on their top 50 list now.

And even though Fucked Up is a punk band, they definitely have a lot of buzz. Plus, they're on Matador which is undoubtedly an uber-indie label.

And I can understand reviewing of Fucked Up as they are highly indie in more ways than one.

Still though... they need to masturbate less over trendy crap like Vampire Weekend and stop being pretentious toward music that doesn't fit into their modern art indie rock/synth deco mold. There's a record store up the road from me that showcases all of pitchfork's top reviewed albums in it's window. Fucked Up - Chemistry of Common Life showed up a few weeks after the review in pitchfork and now Gaslight will be in as soon as that wanker can order it.

Pitchfork was posting reviews of the Queers and MTX in the early 2000s.

You bitch because they review indie bands. You bitch when they start reviewing bands you like.

I guess I should clarify why I would like to see them there: I already saw them at the Middle East Club in Cambridge, MA for their CD release show of The '59 Sound, and Polar Bear Club opened. It was one of the best shows I saw all year. I go to Coachella every year, and I put off going to shows because most acts I want to see wind up there. If you've ever been, it's not just huge outdoor stages (although its possible), and even then, there is something special about seeing a band in the Indio desert with palm trees in the background and blue skies above. It's like you are secluded from the world in the best way ever with the music you love for 3 days. I'd love to have them included in that experience this year.

Screaming for the sake of what we love most...

This band blew Gaslight away live; so much intensity and energy. If only there was more of a crowd for them.
