No plans for a new Rage Against the Machine album, says Morello

Though rumours abound that the recently reunited Rage Against The Machine would work on a new album, guitarist Tom Morello shot down the notion in a recent interview.

Morello explained:

There are no plans for that. We've had a wonderful year and a half of playing shows, and I don't see any reason to not play more shows. The thing is there's only so many hours in the musical day, and mine are very occupied right now.

Morello is working on his solo project, The Nightwatchman while vocalist Zach de la Rocha is busy with his band, One Day as a Lion. Both have released new albums this year, Fabled City and One Day As A Lion respectively.

Not surprised. I hate to use the term "cash grab" but that's really what the reunion seems like. They probably still don't get along and probably don't have enough interactions to really generate an album. If anything they'll release a B-sides/rarities/outtakes album but I don't see anything of a new album anytime soon.

this refusal to reunite for the purposes of generating a new album is all about RATM sticking to their principals of anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism and anti-otherstuffyoulearnaboutincollege. They are too good to dive in for the "cash grab".

I think they are playing it safe, seeing as if they did release a new album, people really wouldn't give a shit about it anyway, ala Guns N Roses / Metallica.... Nobody would buy it, and it would probably have like maybe one really great song it and the rest just filler. They are better off playing live shows and just touring ala Roger Waters.Smoking Popes, and whoever else tours and tours without even the slightest view of a new release.
