Bigwig plans 7" in 2009

Jumpstart Records has unveiled a new project from long-running cult favorite Bigwig. Plans are currently to record in early 2009 and release it on vinyl (7") and digitally as an EP. There's no news about who is currently in the band besides founder Tom Petta.

The band's last release was Reclamation.

if they (i.e., Tom) want to keep making music, why should they stop? if you don't want to listen to it, don't. i'm sure there are some people out there that would enjoy some new bigwig, myself included.

It might be that Yemin sings in PIB while he just plays guitar in the other projects you're talking about. That's what it is for me anyway. I like PIB's music quite a bit, but Yemin's vocals are horrible and just don't work for me in the slightest.

Shit yeah, what an awesome way to start Monday morning at work! Bigwig are one of the best bands, I hope this one thrashes more than Reclamtion. The harder and faster the better as far as I'm concerned!

For those who want to know:

Bigwig currently consists of: Tom, the same guitar and bass players from Reclamation, and my friend Rob on drums. My bands drummer was supposed to play for bigwig and I asked rob to play for us. In the long run Rob ended up in bigwig and we kept our drummer. My drummer is still pissed at me for telling Rob about the spot. Oops....

The new stuff is supposed to be the heaviest to date.

"Sick of It All" and "March 11th" kind of remind me of Lagwagon and Bigwig but with pop punk vocals, which is a good thing. March 11th is especially old Lagwagonish.

I'm one of the co-writers. Basically, someone writes a script, and the whole group takes that script and makes it awesome by adding jokes and tightening up dialogue. Then we storyboard it with the artist, Nick. I've been told the next strip goes up tonight, but the guy who does all the internet stuff is on a road trip to Austin. My fingers are crossed.

None of us are in the "scene" at all. Nick had never done anything with comics before so if you know anyone who as ANY experience with visual art talk to them. We didn't talk to any artists. We just sort of stumbled onto our guy.

"Driving Home." Few even come close for me, but if I had to pick HMs, they'd go to "It's Hard to Know," "Trusty Chords" and "Giver." I listen to HWM whenever I'm feeling like shit (which is disturbingly often these days) and they've never failed to cheer me up. Definitely one of my favorite bands of all time.

Bigwig was at their finest right around the release of Invitation to Tragedy. After that their set list changed and they stopped playing Carnivore. Seriously, how do you have a song like Carnivore and not play it? If you've never seen Bigwig play Carnivore, you missed out and should probably off yourself.

Another song they stopped playing that ruled was "Dent". Jesus, remember how good their first two CDs were and then they stopped playing songs off of them? Seriously, I'd go see them and they'd play "Smile" and not play "Numbers". They'd play "Moosh" and not cover "Knowledge". How does a band rationalize doing that? When I think of Bigwig, my head wants to explode.

IIRC, I saw them play it once but I'm not sure to be honest with you. Never really cared for the song that much to want to hear it live when I could yell out for them to play "Dent" and ignore me.

Gee I wonder why this band ALWAYS has a lineup change, but the Tom guy is still there....Can you say- DICK? Or maybe it is just shit luck. But is any case I always did like the Cymbals on fire thing. Good luck in any case to them.

hell yeah!! i remember seeing this guys play years back. the drummer lit his cymbals on fire and jumped off the amps on the last song. kick ass show!! too bad they were opening for mest, yeah they were. loved stay asleep, one of the best albums ever!!
