I played guitar for my best friend's band for a short time. The stuff they wrote was pretty chill but creative and so I threw down some badass lead parts and did a couple shows with them. Anyway, we covered this one Copeland song, and I'd never heard them before, so they just showed me the chords to this one song and I laid down a riff (which happened to be a near-exact copy of one from a Funeral For a Friend song) that fit real well and we played it.

Anyway, later on after they broke up I actually listened to the Copeland original version and it was boring as FUCK. Super slow, clean guitars, airy vocals, etc. We played that motherfucker like we were gonna die if we didn't finish it in > 2 minutes and I had this super heavy distortion on all my lead lines and basically we raped their song and it was way better than anything they did.

oh yes, I'm sure the reason they sound the way they do is because they couldn't find that "super heavy distortion" sound. I also heard somewhere that they can't play that song in less than two minutes because they physically can't play faster than 120 bpm.

They fucked up real bad. They really should have thought to throw in a shitty riff that sounds exactly like one from a song by Funeral For A Friend, which, by the way, is one of the greatest bands in the grand scheme of music.
