Murder City Devils (and others) replace Amy Winehouse at Coachella

The cancellation of Amy Winehouse from this year's Coachella has enabled the festival to announce a number of replacement artists including Murder City Devils. According to Billboard, other additions include Devendra Banhart, the Orb, Chemical Brothers, Etienne de Crecy, Flying Lotus, Public Enemy producers the Bomb Squad, Kode 9, and Daedulus will all be performing now.

The tenth annual Coachella festival is set for April 17-19 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, California. Headliners include Paul McCartney, the Killers and the Cure and notable acts include My Bloody Valentine, Morrissey, Leonard Cohen and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Wow, when this site gets their facts wrong do they ever get their facts wrong. Its always in the wording, too. These artists are not REPLACING Amy Winehouse -- They are only additional names that were always going to be put on the lineup, but for some reason or another (Visas needing clearance, for the most part) they didn't make the initial lineup when it was announced in January. They add new names after the fact every year.

As for Winehouse's replacement, they are adding someone else altogether not listed here who has yet to be announced (and they'll also be adding Plump DJs as another dance/DJ act. This name will supposedly be as big of name (or even bigger.) Some are saying its going to blow a few minds. We'll see...

This type of error-laden news reporting reminds me of that time the .org posted the story that Gaslight Anthem are "opening" for Springsteen at a European festival somewhere. The fact actually was that if you go to the festival's website, it shows that Dave Matthews is actually the band going on right before Springsteen and Gaslight is just a band on the day's lineup somewhere mid-to-low tier. I'm surprised this site didn't report Gaslight Anthem are opening up for The Cure at Coachella since they're playing the same day as them. This is what you get when you have 13 year olds writing the stories here.

If being an asshat means being someone who expects journalistic credibility from news sources like this site claims to have, then so be it. I'd rather be wearing the biggest asshat in the world than be a news blog that doesn't fact check its work before it publishes it, or writes about stories it actually is familiar with altogether.

if you don't like it, start your own zine. this shit is done with love not with ambitions. aubin and company have been introducing me to new music and letting me in on videos, tour dates and the like for years and i'm super appreciative. get over yourself.

I've been reading the news on this site for years, and I don't know what's been in the water here lately, but whenever I read something I know isn't 100% "punk"-related such as a story about Amy Winehouse, I know there's a good chance there'll be an innaccurate detail.

Bottom line is this: Do your research and check your facts before you hit "Publish", Punknews.org. You guys have been around for years and to see these types of mistakes still riddling your stories shows a serious lack of attention and improvement.

As for you the_other_scott, you can go back to listening to your Against Me! or Propagahndi or whatever you're listening to.

o.O yeah, wow, MCD are barely but the main point of the referenced article as a whole is about pop artist Winehouse dropping out of Coachella, 3 other large name dance / dj acts and popular a freak folk artist being added to the lineup on top of MCD (who were added to the lineup weeks ago -- where was the story then?)

Stop trying to defend this site for shotty reporting and blowing the story out of proportion, just like it did with that Gaslight story. Bravo, MCD is playing Coachella and they're punk but looking back at how the headliner says "Murder City Devils (and others) REPLACE Amy Winehouse" is just as wrong and misleading as a Fox News report about every Democratic politician.
