Stillborn signs The World We Knew

Stillborn Records has signed straight edge metal/hardcore outfit The World We Knew. The band recently finished recording a new 11 track album. The record is titled To The Wolves and is due out June 30, 2009.

You can check out "Hellbound" from the new album on their myspace page.

The band will be hitting the road with Liferuiner and Suffokate later this month. Dates are posted on their myspace page.

Never heard of these guys and actually considered giving them a listen until I read that I could check out a song called "hellbound." Then I knew I had heard it a million times before.

I don't know, I think they're good. I couldn't imagine them being one of the worst punk bands ever. There are just so many shitty ones out there; you could name any of the Youth of Today clones out there, for instance.

Fuck these bands, I'm a straightedger but I can't stand this mutant metal shit. I love the youth crew stuff, 7 Seconds, Gorilla Biscuits, etc... and I love straight-up death metal (Cryptopsy, Necrophagist, etc.) but mixing them just sucks.

Meh, I think that some of it is good; really when it errs more on the DEP/Converge side rather than the Hatebreed thing.

There is worth and shit to every genre.

Oh yeah I definitely agree Shai Hulud, Converge, Deadguy etc. are all phenomenal bands, but that's because they really have their own style. All these copycat Hatebreed/Throwdown/Terror bands are horrific though.

Never understood straight edge. How about "meh, i just don't drink, no big deal"???
Same with skins I guess, my town is full of 30-40 yr old dudes that still wear all these patches and shit everywhere, nice enough guys but, c'mon I stopped bleaching my hair and wearing baggy pants when I was like 22 even though I still liked fat wreck in the 90's. Not that we all need to abandon our ideals and start wearing kakhi slacks and pastel colored polo shirts or anything but cliques are so boring.

It doesn't mean just not drinking, dude. If you just want to not drink, that's cool. Don't be straightedge then. It's more of a mind set for me. You need to have a *reason* to not want to get fucked up. When I find myself sitting around bored off my ass thinking, "so this is why people drink for fun", then I get off my ass and practice music, or go skating, or work out, or just do anything constructive.

And before everyone thinks I'm a stuck-up asshole (or is it too late already?), I used to drink - HEAVILY, and I didn't have that much fun, so I've seen both sides and I like the non-drinking life much, much better. And I don't have anything against people drinking. I'm in a band with dudes that drink/smoke and I couldn't care less.

Oh yeah, and I'm 21, have bleached hair, wear baggy pants, and listen to Fat Wreck shit all the time. Just cuz you gave up on something doesn't mean it went out of style. And if it did go out of style, who gives a fuck? I'll look however I want and listen to whatever I want.

So wear a jester hat, a skirt, and paint your skin green. Then you'll be unique. How does anyone think even for a nano-second that they're not part of some stereotype for how they dress?

I remember some Mitch Clem blog or comic or whatever once I stumbled on where he was making fun of punk fashion, and it's like, dude, you wear orgcore band shirts and have a beard, just like the rest of the 20-something jerks these days.

Sometimes I think I still do, whether I'm trying or not. Everyone kinda gravitates to their 17 or 18 year old self when it comes to fashion.

Like, I'm 27, and I wouldn't consider for an instant going out in public in one of those nuevo-skateboard hoodies with all the crumpled up newspaper/ ghetto/ high contrast designs. Cuz I'd look like an idiot and a child, but years later when some kid is now 27, he'll be wearing some variation of that and thinking whatever that trend morphed into is obnoxious.

I'm not saying I'm unique becaue I don't dress the part. I probably do dress the part. I buy band t-shirts and all that shit. I just don't make an effort to look cool. that's probably why I don't look cool. I just grew out of trying to look crazy or weird or whatever. I have no problem with the punk scene in general, I've been a part of it for a long time and probably always will be but I don't feel the need to wear my "cred" on my sleeve. I just have better things to do than spend hours and hours sewing patches on my jacket or making my t-shirts look old. Like the fucking gutter punks that hang out and beg for change yet their wearing a 200 dollar leather jacket with 100 dollars worth of spikes and studs and shit on it. Just so happens, from my experience, that those people are the least interesting to talk to. They are pretty one-dimensional where as all they can talk about is punk music or the punk scene or how fucked up they got.

I would certainly define my self as punk but punk surely doens't define who I am.

I guess that's my probem with straight edge. If your positive about life that's fine. If you don't drink that fine. I really don't give a fuck what "set you claim". I drink heavily also, and it's fucking fun most of the time. But that's not who I am.

This is alright, but the "hardcore" part of the hybrid is a lot less than the metal. Although I bet people really into metal would disagree with me.
