the thing is though I think maybe you're self misinterpreting 'hatred' for some sort of jealousy or naiveness. i just think its kinda funny because the rest of the world recongnizes the greatness of the band. like, for example, i hate the band Nickelback that entire genre, but i don't feel the need to be vocal about it. i dunno, whatever -- like i said, as bizarre as your comments are i'll continue to read -- they add some entertainment to my day.

I remember why. When I was 14 or something I bought a Soundgarden CD and a couple other CDs from bands like that and had the realization that there was only one good song or a negative number of good songs on there (subtracting out the shitty secret songs) per CD. Assholes.

when those replacements reissues came out last year, back when the economy wasn't shit and it was about 2 dollars to the british pound, i bought "pleased to meet me" and "tim" for 16pounds each. 32pounds. SIXTY-FUCKING-FOUR of your american dollars for two cds. granted they're solid fucking gold albums, but still, i'm thinking i should've waited and got them off amazon or something...

i think people being lazy and cheap causes that more than anything. you can almost always get a cd for $10 or less at a show.

I was referring more to major label shit. I had to buy a couple of CDs at FYE a year or so back (on short notice) and it came out to about $16 a CD (all major label shit), that's fucking absurd and I feel perfectly okay stealing that shit. But yeah, Asian Man is usually under $10 as is No Idea and a few other labels are close. I think that's okay, but anything more than $12 is some bullshit.

$12 is my limit on principle. I prefer 10 or less.

The last time I can remember making an exception to this was the Keasbey Nights v2. I forgot to preorder it and didn't want to wait, so I got it for like 18 bucks at some huge music store. I can't say I regret it though.

i haven't bought music from any sort of major retailer (save eMusic or Virgin Megastore maybe twice) in the past 6 or 7 years. obviously there is always the last minute stuff, but I don't mind paying $16 or $17 if its from a mom and pop store. i'd rather not, and i'm more likely to order from the label or buy it at a show, but i don't mind if its a day-of-release type thing.

the piracy issue has always looked like a mix of 1) apathy about unenforceable laws, 2) over valued/priced products coming from labels 3) stickin it to the man mentality; and i wonder if this is really anything that can be undone.

I agree. On a positive note vinyl sales have risen especially those idiots that buy every color and never place them on the turntable. I collect vinyl but only what I will listen to over & over not will rack up the most punk points or sell for the most on E-Bay. I especially don't need 15 copies of the same record. The only use for that is bar banter which most people don't care about anyway.

Their shirts on this tour were pretty cool, but i liked the one i got of Interpunk the best. It's like a 3/4 sleeve with a picture of New Jersey, and has three daggers pointing at New Brunswick. I mean, i think its pretty fucking cool, but it was like 20 bones.

Also though, if it is just a timing issue with you, I think that since he does at least reference the shitty economy as a reason, that pretty much takes care of the timing issue. Why not do this sooner? Because the economy didn't suck back then and because people didn't pirate music so much. That does make sense.

The argument that they should have done it sooner is somewhat argue proof since it's so subjective, but I'll reply to it anyway. First, $10 was already a fair price in my opinion. Second, if there are multiple reasons behind why they made the switch, then an absence of one reason (lack of a shitty economy before recent times) is enough to cause them to not make the switch. If the prices were already reasonable and the economy wasn't in the shitter, it makes sense to me to not lower the price. That's fair economics to both parties.
