Lighten Up!: "Absolutely Not"

Jump Start Records has launched a full album stream of Absolutely Not, the upcoming full-length from Philadelphia, PA's Lighten Up!. The record is due out on June 6, 2009 and will follow up I'd Rather Be Snoring [7 inch], released in 2006.

As mentioned in Navel Gazing, I'm making a CD for someone who has never listened to punk music. Around 28 or 29 songs of different bands. I'm having trouble deciding on what songs to put by certain bands. So finished the sentence.

If I had one Descendents song to show someone, I'd pick ________.
If I had one Rise Against song to show someone, I'd pick ________.
If I had one Anti Flag song to show someone, I'd pick ________.
If I had one Smoke Or Fire song to show someone, I'd pick ________.
If I had one Bouncing Souls song to show someone, I'd pick ________.

I got Supersonic by Bad Relig as the opener which can't be matched. I was about to Showerbeers by BTMI! But she might throw the CD out after that. And is San Dimas Highschool Football Rules a must? I know it's kind of cheesy now but damn, that song/band was a l

If someone I knew made me a mix CD with a Bomb The Music Industry song on it, I'd probably stop being friends with them.

And to be honest, I'm only putting them on there because I feel they are a necessity for someone who has never listened to punk music. Kind of like NOFX, Souls, Lagwagon, Descendents etc. Whether or not she likes them, at least she's heard them.

Anti-Flag only had a few songs I ever enjoyed; I don't really think they're required listened, but I don't think Lagwagon is either.

Naw, I just can't stand BTMI! I've listened to them plenty of times to see if I could stomach it, but never could. I really have a hard time understanding what makes some of that material appealing, because a lot of it that I've heard sounds like a sloppy drunken mess. I never thought Arrogant Sons of Bitches were that great recorded either. Their live show though...that was something.

As far as the A-F comment goes, I just hope that a person would choose something from the first few A-F albums to put on a mix CD for a girl. Their politics are fine for 16-year-old's, but there are much better bands that do what A-F do. Like...a lot better.

Also, for the record, I've always thought that most of the stuff I ever wrote for SPB was pretty...not so good. I never found my style, or whatever. I'm much better suited to creating pictures instead of paragraphs.

Descendents I'd pick "Silly Girl".
Rise Aginst I haven't listened to in awhile.
Anti-Flag I was never a fan.
Smoke or Fire I'd pick "Filter" or Patty Hearst Syndrome".
Bouncing Souls I'd pick "Say Anything" or "Quick Check Girl".

It's my favorite song of all time. I've listened to it 20 times every week for the passed four years. I personally think all of their songs before Everything Sucks work better in context than alone anyways.

Whenever I listen to the Descendents, I HAVE to listen to the whole album of whatever it is. Their earlier stuff is so "album" oriented which is why I will never recommend somery.

Yeah, put that Ataris song on there dude. If you've never listened to any punk and you heard the Ataris, how could you be like "fuck this shit!" They're so lovable.

If I had one Descendents song to show someone, I'd pick Bikeage.
If I had one Rise Against song to show someone, I'd pick Paper Wings (unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but it's my favorite by them because of the combination of speed and melody).
If I had one Anti Flag song to show someone, I'd pick a Lagwagon song instead. May 16th probably.
If I had one Smoke Or Fire song to show someone, I'd pick California's Burning (I think that's the name anyway).
If I had one Bouncing Souls song to show someone, I'd pick another Lagwagon song.

And I'd put an Osker song on there somewhere (I Cannot) and a Strung Out song so the recipient of the CD gets a good taste of the less/mor
