The Lawrence Arms to enter studio

Lawrence Arms bassist/vocalist Brendan Kelly has announced via his blog that the band will be entering the studio this weekend to record songs for an eventual 7". Kelly wrote:

"We're gonna look into doing four on the record with a spare track for the internet or something and with a possible alternate version of one, but we're doing shit fairly quickly, so we may not get to everything."

No word yet on a release date or label, but the release will eventually follow up Oh! Calcutta!, released in 2006. The band also recently announced a tenth anniversary show in Chicago.

they really are 2 different things. a single should be so good you could just spin the A-side all night long and the B-side being a little different from everything else or having no other place (or sadly sometimes just a throwaway). an EP can be pretty much anything and acts as a short release version of an album. i love the idea of a single, but do tend to prefer EPs or LPs.

i don't know if any album will ever usurp apathy and exhaustion as (easily) my favorite of theirs and (possibly) my favorite of all time. of course i am a big fan of the other stuff too

Get a USB turntable, they're just about the same price as a regular one and the sound quality of the mp3s you record are pretty good.

They're recording an extra track as well as a alternate version of one of the tracks for the internet. So it'll at least be digital.

I wouldn't say that, but the stuff I've heard bootlegged isn't promising. "Sorry Tom Gabel that I got drunk at your wedding" isn't exactly why I fell in love with this band.

is it too late to be hoping for dan hanaway jams? not to harp on people's past bands, but i did enjoy the broadways more, and i feel the lawrence arms is just missing that element he brought to it. i made it two albums into the lawrence arms, and nothing really pushed me to keep going.

I didn't get into em fully until Oh Calcutta! came out. I've known who they were since the instant they started and all that, but always felt their earlier stuff was spotty at best. I backtracked a bit and actually started to dig the old stuff once I kinda broke em in.

That said, it was still hella fun to see them with Andrew WK at Northern Illinois like 6 years ago or so.

so Friday night you've got to choose between either Naked Raygun or

Murder City Devils, Dead Milkmen, New Bomb Turks, and Riverboat Gamblers.

I'd go with MCD just because those are four of the rockingest bands out there all in one show. but that's a tough choice.
