Angels & Airwaves' to release new album, film for free

While Blink 182 is currently getting the most press, Tom Delonge is still planning significant releases with his project, Angels and Airwaves. Tom discusses his upcoming album and film, Love with Billboard and notes that the album will be free, thanks to "corporate underwriting":

[Love] is the biggest release of my life, the pinnacle of my creativity. It's super conceptual and highbrow in many ways, very artistic, very Stanley Kubrick. But it's not a rock opera. It's a very modern version of what could happen when you blend the film industry and the music industry together in a very, very arty, kind of cool way with professionals involved all along the path.

[The film] blurs the line between full-fledged live action and documentary with these epic kind of...meditative sequences where the sound design and the music and the picture all bend together to create a sonic experience as much as a visual one. It tells a story of human life and destiny but at the same time really makes usual moments of life extraordinary. It's a circular narrative in many ways, where it kind of sums up the human race in a time capsule."

Soundwise, Tom is aiming for Radiohead, U2 and Pink Floyd.

I hate it when people describe their own work as highbrow and arty. It makes it seem like a conscious decision to make something fit those descriptions rather than an honest artistic expression.

This band reminds me of those soft "alternative" bands of the 90s . THey will never sound like Radiohead , U2 is classic but too many bands have ripped off their sound and Pink Floyd must be a Chinese Pink Floyd cover band ... ehh then it would be called Ping Froyd

I agree with you for the most part man, but Bono? U2 a classic? Man if i could get bono in a room, just me and him, i would get that fucker on the ground, hold him down and slap him repetitively till he was crying and pissing his pants, but while i would be slapping him with every slap I'd lay i would also just be chanting "YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!" and at the end of it would just stand up and ask "not so quiet on new years day now anymore now is it?".

I fucking love that part in that angels and airwaves dvd when he's sitting in a chair with a glass of wine saying things like "spacier"..."bigger"..."more delay" while two guys are working their asses off at the mixing desk.

That's his idea of sound design.

There is a bit of a grey area on terms I think, I way understand transexual to be someone who's secondary sexual characteristics aren't fully developed and has a disconnect with their gender identity and someone who is transgendered is someone who feels like the sexe of their body doesn't match the gender they identify with on the inside and that is me.

Although I do have some feelings of genderqueerness.

I know where this guy is coming from. I can't wait for our new record to come out… it's sort of like a lush soundscape meshed with new media opportunities, presented in a way that really crescendos like the waves of the ocean and the rhythms of humanity. Imagine if William Shakespeare wrote lyrics for music composed by Mozart, and then some kind of spirit ghost possessed both of them while they were doing this, and you'll understand the sonic miracles we're attempting to share here. It's kind of like the history of energy was hidden in an underground bunker, and we're using the power of compassion to wash away the ground and melt away the steel cage beneath it to release this energy out into the world.
