Deerhunter started getting big in Atlanta right around the time I was getting ready to leave. I'd done my share of blow and seen the Black Lips and Thee Crucials more times that is probably healthy, and they just sounded like shit to me.

Most of the people I knew on the scene at the time didn't like them either, as I recall. They put out this split on Rob's House that no one liked. It wasn't until the music press started swinging from that anorexic dude's balls that everyone retroactively began talking them up.

Well yeah I made it sound like I disliked them less than I do... my friend is really annoying with music, refusing to play any of mine at any volume but cranking his 24/7... in his house, in his car, everywhere. I am subjected to every Pitchfork flavour of the week band, and Deerhunter is just one of the ones that doesn't actively drive me crazy. I guess because it's so boring and fades away into background music. I do like Interpol and Japandroids and some other bands he really likes. And then some other band with a retarded-sounding Japanese girl singing horribly over really fun dancey-punk instrumentation that I like, obviously besides the vocals... forget their name.

We have them too, with Billy Talent thrown in there with some other crappy nu-emo pop punk bands just because they're Canadian... Hedley, Sum 41, you know. So I see all those bands as Lady Gaga alumni, so it's weird seeing them brought up on the internet as some relatively unknown band, described with actual genre terms and compared to bands I like... ugh.

I take xanax too, and I have the same problem. I can't tell if they're working or not. Sometimes I think I feel them working but then I think it's all in my head.

My parents don't know anything about this since I'm 25. In fact, I'm trying to keep them out of this completely, now that I'm paying for my own medical insurance. Just based on what I've read about the drug on the internet, I was expecting much more than this so far.

But maybe I just don't react like most people, which would be highly unusual I'm sure. I guess I'll give it another hour or so.

yeah I dunno, I'm a fairly big guy, but even just .5 and I can feel it. Admittedly it took about 2mg for me to get what you'd call "high" but I could definitely feel the effects between .5 and 1.5 But you don't really get "high" More just sedentary and generally content. + forgetfulness for what happened when you wake up the next day.

Oh yeah and they are the generics. It's been over an hour now. Feel normal. If I don't feel anything in another hour, I'm going to take 2 more. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll call the doctor on Monday and ask her if she gave me sugar pills. My copay was only 4 bucks, and I was expecting it to be like 30 bucks at least.

But really, the true test will come when you wake up tomorrow. You gotta report back to us then. Cause I've felt perfectly fine on xanax all night and then woken up (or tried to) and realized the shit hit me harder than I thought.

if you ever have the chance to have a say-so in your medication along these lines, try to get them to switch you to ativan (lorazepam instead of alprazolam). It gave me the chill feel of xanax without the drowsy/lackadaisical/hungover effects of xanax.

oh yeah. my mom is a psychiatric nurse and the dr. she works for always prescribes xanax for his girlfriend which, I was the only person working at the pharmacy who realized this was probably not legal but I ain't gonna say nothing to get my mom fired. Bottom line, yeah they can and will prescribe anything.

although if you're really having serious problems, it may not be benzodiazepines that you need.

I know, I've got my whole set-up in the bedroom so far. The living room/dining room was emtpy except for cat furniture/toys. now that I've got a couch out there it feels a little more homey. I'm gonna buy a cheapo old school tv from goodwill tomorrow (you can get fairly big ones hella cheap these days) and bring my old coffee table/end tables over from my moms house tomorrow and then the living room will be ready to be lived in. fo reels.

Before I got my couch, my apartment was completely not inviting or homey in any way. It felt bare and like I couldn't have visitors over. After I got it, my apartment now feels completely guest friendly and normal. It really made all the difference, kinda like The Dude's rug in the Big Lebowski.

The problem with these lists is that I don't consider most of those movies dystopian. Just because they take in a future that sucks doesn't equal distopia in my mind. Distopia to me indicates that it is kind of the opposite of utopia, meaning that (a) there is a world that has completely gone to shit, plus (b) there is still a government in place trying to control that world through athoritarian/totalitarian means, and (c) that one of the methods of control is that both the government and society pretend (double think) that the world they live in is actually great, kinda like a utopia.

Many of these movies don't fit that for me.

Death Watch might fit your request. I don't consider it unintentionally cheesy or hilarious, but I know others who think it's at least cheesy. I on the other hand think it's just a badass horror movie, one that's worth watching.
