No way dude. Cobra Skulls is similar to Against Me, you are all up Gabel's junk. The rest are faster pop-punk bands. Music to drink and punch your friends to.
so i just had a seizure visiting the cobra skulls front page and all it led me to was another blocked myspace website. but will have to check em out. unfortunately i dont drink and dont have any friends. is it good music to smoke ciggies and wank yourself off to?
For 1 trlillion dollars you can create 20 million jobs that pay $50,00 each. Coincidentally 20-25 million people are unemployed in the United States if you use an honest metric.
Also, $50,000 is about the median income meaning that you will have half of the remaining workforce -- around 40-45 million people -- who want $50k governement jobs as well. The solution: give 'em to 'em.
Before you know it, private industry ceases to exist..
Now thats my kinda socialism. Well, that and the Anabaptists who basically decided that the way to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth was to kill all the rich people and redistribute their stuff..
Hey, I love Montreal. I don't know if Montreal is on that tour, that stuff is top secret and they keep me in the dark. It'll be announced in due time...
Its cool posting the address on here, I don't see that being a problem. But make sure the bands don't put them anywhere else online. We've had some run ins with the cops lately at FFA and try to keep things from being posted.
That said, hope to see people there! Get there early too! My band is opening the show at FFA!
No worries at all Toby. Like I said its no problem being on the org, just like message boards and myspace we always ask it to be a message for address.
Considering I just saw the corbra skulls for free tuesday night, I really don't see the reason to drag myself to Studio 7 with no menzingers on the bill. Too bad
I assume you would be writing this because you aren't 21. Because if not and you were insinuating that Bender's is anything but awesome that just wouldn't be right.
Benders and Three Kings are phenomenal... just think of how great it will be when you're finally 21 and can go see Cobra Skulls and Copyrights at Benders... only they won't be there cause they'll be big enough to play the Ogden by then, and you'll wish you were old enough to have seen them when they were at Benders. Like me. Sorry.
So I gave my first serious listen to Sonic Youth this week. Sister was kind of meh but Daydream Nation is pretty cool. In fact I'm actually giving it a second listen right now.
That's what an old roommate of mine always used to say. This guy was the ultimate Pitchforker, down to the fact that he even looked exactly like Lou Barlow. His room was by the kitchen so I'd always hear him playing SY stuff and kind of dig it but when I'd ask for where to start he'd talk about Daydream Nation for a bit then go on a twenty minute rant about how it's not their only album and it's not the starting point, then start to wax poetic about other LPs one at a time, all that type of crap. I lived with the guy for an entire year and never once got a straight answer out of him.
I've also heard good things. Sometimes it's better to play shows in the sleepy towns than to fight to get shows at ungrateful clubs in the big cities where nobody shows up anyway.
It's a really cool spot. I'm trying to set up a show there with my band sometime soon.
The people who run the place are really cool. They pretty much let the kids do what they please, and after the show last week they were thanking everyone for coming out and supporting the place. It was a very welcome change from most venues in the area. I'm really excited this tour is coming to my hometown. I missed the Cobra Skulls when they played Highland, IN in my friends basement last year and I'm still kicking myself.
theres a public lot next to blanchards at the intersection of harvard ave and brighton ave you can park at and walk around from. the fort is only a 5 min walk from there.
a tree fort like kids have but better y'know cuz I'm all big n shit. and it would have a secret password so I wouldn't have to let in - as eazy would put it - any wankers and cunts I didn't want to.
Not to fuss about it, but the bands are driving 8+ hours to get to some of these shows. People shouldn't be too bummed to have to drive an hour to see them.
Valid point. But not everyone has the luxury of a) a car that runs and is available, b) a ride, or c) public transportation. Sometimes all we have is our not-so-secret loathing of our ancestors' New World destination of choice and/or poor life decisions.
Some day I will start a label with a ton of bands that you really dig and spend your hard earned money on. Then I will book a tour with said bands. But said tour will only come to San Jose. And you'll cry about it.
the chinatown bus is fucking scary. i think those drivers stay awake for like 6 days straight. i have a few really, really close friends in Philly so I am down there a few times a year. And I've done the train, bus, zip car, regular car. All pretty easy. Just tough on a weeknight to get down to a show.
I think Chinatown bus is easiest (I got a couple buddies in Brooklyn). Ever since the big drug bust a year or two ago, they're slightly better than they used to be. I even got yelled at for lighting up a blunt and that never would have happened before.
PS, July 25th is a Saturday and I think a couple other punknews guys are crashing at my place already, saying.
PPS, weren't you thinking about moving down here before? I guess nothing came of that?
i still am thinking about it, but i twouldn't be for a little while. i'm getting married in october and that is taking all of my time/energy/money so moving wouldn't be any good. i'm also waiting for the economy to sharpen up so there are more job opps.
you're right it is a saturday. ironically enough two of my good friends are moving to Philly on August 1st and the 25th is their going away party.
Yeah, I just sent tour posters out there. It's actually in Redford, MI at 25044 Grand River. Hopefully the Burbs won't be a turnoff? I wanted Small's, but what can ya do...
Word. My GF's folks now live around 10-mile, so I'm vaguely familiar with what you're talking about. On top of that, I'm wearing my Granderson jersey right now!
I'm going to try and be proactive. Rather than waiting for the dates to be announced and then bitching about the tour routing, I'm going to say there better be a Detroit date on the Teenage Bottlerocket tour in October. Small's would be incred. I unfortunately can't make the Double O.
This show should be great. However, The Java Lounge in Sacramento is too small. It is the size of two living rooms. Oh and no stage. I guess the up side is that is 10 block away from my house.
I'll be at the Portland show! You guys should get Autistic Youth or Tragedy on the bill. Both bands bring in a good following. I would recommend the "East End" for the venue, it gets the biggest draw for punkish type bands.
Tragedy?!?! That'd be awesome, but I dunno if they're down for that sorta thing. I guess Defiance played with Cobra Skulls last night in PDX. Close enough...
hear that? that was the sound of everybody's flies bursting.
