hm. see, my taste in ska-punk is very narrow indeed. it often teeters on the edge of "alright summery music" to "annoying as fuck."

the person who recommended them to me told me about the ska element and i was like "this isn't gonna be like NOFX with a horn section is it?" and he assured me no.

They're not ska punk anymore, only their first album. The second had some ska influenced parts, but was mostly very Lawrence Arms-y but louder and bigger. The new album's going to go further from ska. Oh and they don't have any horns, ever, except when used a bit in some songs as non-ska horns. Even the first album was ska using no horns, which made it good. Not summery or cheesy at all.

They are the best young bad out there right now. I wouldn't even call them ska, they rarely use horns in their songs, and when they do it's very tasteful. Just like a trumpet ringing out or something. I think everybody should be forced to check them out.

I saw them live with the Mad Caddies and liked what I heard. But then I went to their myspace and didn't like it as much. Still a solid band though.

But seriously, they are great. If you are weary of the ska undertones, check out The Great Awake first, it's less ska.

It really annoys me when I see people either asking about a band because they haven't heard them, or just bringing them up like they're this brand new awesome find when I've been listening to them for years. I wish I could just put together a 400 band mixtape and get everyone to listen to it and get into all the bands. I'm not trying to be a douchebag by saying "I listen to all these bands everyone would like but not everyone listens to them", but I am saying that. I mean I check out the myspaces of nearly every band listed here that I haven't heard of, even in lists of like 100 bands for festivals. It's not hard. It would have been easier to go listen to a song then post on here saying "someone convince me to listen to them".

Yeah but sometimes I listen to one song on myspace am not blown away and so kinda overlook bands that, given more of a chance, I would probably get into

So I don't think its totally dishonest to ask people to encourage you..the more people who encourage you, the better the odds that its worth the time to take a longer listen

Not saying you're wrong or that some people don't play footsie

One other thing, I took the book from the Fest and tried to make a point to listen to every band. It was so overwhleming I just ended up looking up bands on the "Fans Also Liked" lists for bands I liked

check out The Architects instead. the Kansas City ones, not the metal band
