The organizers of The Sandinista Project have decided to post a free download of the 36-song tribute to The Clash's famous album, Sandinista!.

First announced in 2007, the album assembled covers of all 36 songs from The Smithereens, Camper Van Beethoven, Jon Langford & Sally Timms, Amy Rigby, Katrina Leskanich (Waves), Wreckless Eric, Willie Nile, Matthew Ryan, Stew, Sex Clark Five, Sid Griffin & Coal Porters and many more. The profits were split between two charities near and dear to the Clash: Amnesty International and the Joe Strummer Memorial Forest.

The organizers commented:

Joe Strummer of the Clash would have been 57 today. So today seems like a good day to give Clash fans a present.
