Videos: Frank Turner: "Poetry of the Deed (live on CNN)"

Frank Turner visited CNN for a performance of "Poetry of the Deed." The song is the title track from Frank's newly released Epitaph Records debut, Poetry of the Deed. This is Frank's second appearance on the network, with his video debuted on the channel last month.

Frank is currently touring with The Gaslight Anthem

songs should not be broadcast to the masses via skype. the internet may have increased the level of technology available to the common man, but it also seems to have caused the rest of the media to deteriorate in certain aspects.

I hate to sound cliched but I hate when stuff like this gets called punk if its anything its a helluva lot closer to that indie shit its happaning a lot lately too, dont get me wrong I like some of these bands like The Menzingers and stuff but apart from their label there really not punk bands. Punk for me anyway is in your face fast power chord heavy simplistic songs, this is one of the least punk pieces of music ive heard.

Since when did punk music have boundaries? it's pretty ignorant to say that punk music is exclusively "in your face fast power chord heavy simplistic songs". I think it's more about the message, rather than the sound. obviously the sound of a band has a big portion of whether they are punk or not, but it should not be everything.

Downloading artists like Frank Turner etc has been my only way of hearing these artists properly. If I like 'em - I'll buy their album, I'll go to the shows and I'll probably buy a t-shirt.....

My issue is not about him wanting to get paid - my issue is his naivety and arrogance about getting paid - like he deserves it - Nobody fucking asked him to sing his songs - he should be fucking grateful that people give him the time of day in the first place. You can't just pick up a guitar and say 'pay me'! These two comments:

and

"They said that by "stealing" my album they'd come to buy gig tickets and T-shirts which they would not otherwise have done. First up, lose the quote marks, it's stealing, plain and simple (basically shoplifting for cowards). Secondly, that's like saying it's OK for me to steal a car because I'm going to put petrol in it. Duh."

are clearly said by a patronising, hypocritical twat who thinks some kind of miracle happened when people started turning up to his shows, buying his t-shirts and enjoying his music. Obviously all that had nothing to do with illegal downloads...he's just blessed. Why fucking make music if you don't want as many people to hear it as possible?

at what point in that is he an asshole? he works his ass off recording a record, people steal it, he ends up in the hole because of the money put into the recording that isn't recouped

all but 2 or 3 indie record stores in the detroit area are gone now and i'd wager to say that illegal downloading is 90% or more of the cause (with best buy/ walmart being the rest)
