Music promoter Live Nation has announced a $49 "passport" which will grant unlimited access to club shows over the next four months until the end of 2009. Essentially, any non-sold out show playing at a participating club will be included in the ticket.
Of note is that this is non-sold out shows, and the passport is specific to a city. You can find more details, including participating venues here. Games and Technology (33 comments)

It says you "request" a spot on the list. What if you request it and then the show sells out? Do you get kicked off the list? If not, then this could be worth it for live nation stuff since it's always $20+ anyway. And what wuold stop you from just requesting all of the shows in your area?

I'm proud of Seattle for not participating in this.

This is Live Nation taking a tip from hotels and airlines. If a show isn't sold out, it costs you no more money to open it up than it would to not. Basically, the show is going on, even if you don't sell those last 200 spots, so just have those people come in with "Passports" and you get at least some revenue. However, if a show sells out, they can take their $50 passport and fuck themselves.

Is this news because of the huge ad that keeps popping up in the upper right hand corner of this site? 1+ Reply

Probably worth the money, but in NY shows sell out so much, could be risky. Oh, and damn the man, and so forth.

I love how it says "Unlimited Shows*" and then the asterisk says only certain shows and clubs, fuck that.
LinoleumMagazine (September 17, 2009)
This is stupid because the only shows worth buying a ticket for are the ones that are gonna sell out. If it's not gonna sell out, it's probably pretty cheap anyway or a shitty band no one wants to see.
Hulka (September 17, 2009)
What nobody here has yet pointed out is that they've only made this applicable for a very small number of shows that no one wants to go see. Fail.

Needs more cities and more venues, then it might be a kinda cool idea.

Live Nation charges just as much for handling fees as Ticket Master. Fuck them both.
