Ice Cream company appropriates "God Save the Queen" artwork, risks lawsuit

A self-described "subversive" ice cream company called Icecreamists has risked a lawsuit and the ire of the Sex Pistols after using the band's iconic artwork for an advertising campaign.

The ad titled God Save the Cream, uses images from the band's famous single sleeve featuring the Queen on a union flag background. Among the companies produces is an ice-cream cocktail called the Sex Pistol, which comes with a shot of absinthe. Promotional material by Selfridges describes the company as "More Sid & Nancy than Ben & Jerry."

You can dislike them if you like but I'm pretty sure that every time that the "pre-fabricated" thing gets mentioned, it's also mentioned that it's a misconception and false.

True story, the worst time I ever got drunk was on absinthe. A buddy of mine ordered some online from German (it still seems like a shady deal to me). Anyhow, we all did a bunch of shots of the shit (even though it wasn't that awesome). I ended up puking my guts out with my pants around my ankles and passing out in someone's garage. I thought I died.

And it's not like the Sex Pistols took that photo of the queen themselves.

they used a different picture of the queen, and british iconography. it is not an exact lift of the image, and has been made different looking enough.

it is not nearly as spot on as that fucking nike ad a while back.

i just read the article. the real lawsuit would be that they are calling the ice cream the Sex Pistol. the lawsuit should have nothing to do with the image
