Five Iron Frenzy reveal plans for DVD

Six years after the break up of Five Iron Frenzy, the band has revealed plans for an upcoming DVD release, set tentatively for this winter. According to the new site launched for the DVD, it will be titled The Rise and Fall of Fire Iron Frenzy and feature a full length film in the style of a documentary. There will also be a bunch of extras such as music videos, short films, commentary tracks and more. The band is also promising footage of the band's final show.

Originally formed in 1995 and disbanded in 2003, Five Iron Frenzy was a Christian ska/punk band with releases on 5 Minute Walk, Asian Man Records and others.

AP named One Armed Scissor the best song of the decade. They had a full page on the new Dead To Me. They had Cobra Skulls. They had a huge thing on Sunny Day Real Estate.

They also had AFI on the cover, a 4 pager on Jeffree Star, and a Twilight foldout. I don't get it.

General rule of thumb:

Any magazine with interior color pages should not be taken seriously. Printing in color necessitates larger profit margins and encourages "pay for play" situations.

Read Razorcake instead, kids. The articles aren't all that well-written and the layout isn't fancy, but there's more authenticity to what they're covering. No one puts bands like The Measure and Dan Padilla on their cover and expects anything more than break-even.

Yeah...I mean, if you like Dead to Me, that's fine but seriously, I hope it doesn't take away from the press Jeffree Is trying to get. Also, it's unfair to mention the Twilight fold out because they can't put those in every issue. It's just a rad bonus.

They do that all the time. They usually have better hightlights than that though..
You don't get why? They lure in kids and keep doing great features on awesome bands. Alot of girls reads magazines like that religiously and it probably only takes a few months for a girl to go from nothing but Cobra Starship to buying a few decent records.

I subscribe to it and read it cover to cover. They do put in solid, relevant acts, but they also have to put in the artists that kids are going nuts over. I still feel it's worth the subscription price.

Upbeats and Beatdowns was my first "punk" album, and I've always had a soft spot for this band, even though the later part of their catalog is just garbage.

there was a decent amount of socially relavent songwriting on that one. Moreso than a great deal of other "punk" bands. The first song is a diatribe against evangelism for pete's sake.

I'm happy I got to see them live twice in their last couple years. Insanely fun band. I don't listen to much ska/punk any more, but they're one of the ridiculous bands I loved in high-school / college that I'm not embarrassed over now.

Pretty sure this was planned since right after they broke up. They're just reallllllly slow. See the final Brave Saint Saturn record which took like fifty years to finish and release.

It's been planned since right after they broke up, but there was no funding from what I understand. You can't hate too much on eht 90s Christian ska/punk. That's where a LOT of people I know and I got our start in punk music.

"I had wings and dreams could soar" tattooed on my forearm. That song is amazing.

It's always funny to me when I see people bashing this band for their beliefs. I mean, I can understand when people criticize organized religion because I feel like people have twisted religions to accomodate their own personal agendas. I will admit that there were a lot of crappy Christian punk/ska bands, but there were also some really good ones. And really, there are a lot of crappy secular bands too. Five Iron was one of the good ones. What I liked about them was that they made their beliefs clear, but they never really jammed it down anyone's throat. It seems hypocritical for a community that prides itself on freedom of speech and openmindedness to criticize a band for expressing their beliefs.

In an interview on their website with their drummer he's asked what he misses and doesn't about being in FIF, I thought that this answer was really refreshing and honest... and I remembered thats why I loved this band so much to begin with:
"I don't miss being away from family my family, not showering for days, and all of the other things that suck about being on the road. But more than anything I don't miss the religious part of it. If I ever have to listen to another youth minister's sermon, or another sickening round of "As The Deer" I may vomit. I think at first I truly believed in my heart that all that stuff was legit, but the idea of some middle aged guy up there acting like he can relate to these kids is absurd. I'm 34 now and there is no way I could relate to a teenager. No matter how hard I try to hang on to my youth, I can't. You can't stop yourself from getting older and at some point it becomes pathetic. Adults have the responsibility to act like adults. That's what was so maddening about it. That and the idea that Jesus can fix all of your problems. Just say this prayer and he will make it all better. That's a fairy tale, a myth. I'm not saying that faith is a bad thing, I believe quite the opposite. However, it is by no means a fix all. You can't just leave everything up to your deity, shirk you personal responsibility, and hope that it's all going to work out. The truth is that life hard, and it only gets harder and more complicated as you get older, but that's the point."
