To celebrate the release of Defeater's new 2x7-inch, Lost Ground, we've got signed copies of the EP to give away. The six song EP is the first new material from the band since Travels in 2008.

Best band in hardcore? Really? I love Deafter's song writing and they rip live, but when it comes down to it, they're pretty irrelevant.

They're irrelevant to hardcore. You never hear of them outside of this website. They definitely operate above the real hardcore scene.

They don't really have sing alongs; they don't really have dance parts; their lyrics aren't relatable. Their music is really awesome and interesting, but there's little-to-know hardcore spirit to it.

i like my hardcore bands free of hardcore scene politics.

also, paint it black also operates above (or at least beyond) the real hardcore scene. and they rule.

I like all types of hardcore, but I think a band who represents the best in hardcore would have something to do with hardcore. It's not a matter of ruling. I think defeater rules, but not the best hardcore band going.

i understand where you're coming from, and i'm staying away from superlatives. defeater would have fit well on victory along with comeback kid's wake the dead and with honor's this is our revenge.

Mike, you know my feelings on this band, thus, I've signed in to tell you that you are wrong, plus you smell. I consider them the best modern hardcore band running today.

I'm not talking shit about them -- I think they're really awesome. I just think calling them "the best hardcore" band is a stretch considering I don't think they contribute that much to hardcore. By the looks of their myspace photo with the vocalist and the acoustic guitar, they're definitely trying to be something bigger.

Alright, I'll give you that. I just can't get over anything this band has done. Them and Blacklisted are the future of hardcore, but I can understand why you don't think they're as important as say PBC, because not as many people know about them.

Which is bullshit. Peeps need to know.

Truth be told, I wouldn't even consider Polar Bear Club "important." I found their cd at FYE at the mall so maybe they will become an important band that breached "indie" into the mainstream, which may or may not be a good thing.

they are too boring to be the best band in hardcore. sure, at least they aren't copying the typical sound or being trendy douche bags but this stuff just doesn't do anything for me.
