Welcome to the newly launched Punknews.org! This afternoon we're celebrating our 10th anniversary by launching the fifth major revision to the site. We'll all be on hand throughout the day to work out bugs and fix display quirks, so if you're having a problem feel free to post it here.
We'll post a proper introduction later today once smoke stops pouring out of the server.

Happy Anniversary to the org. Looks nice in here, I like what you've done with the place.

Ughhh I have a hard enough time keeping up with all of Facebook's stupid biweekly redesigns. 3+ Replies

Constructive criticism: not a fan of the fat black borders on the left and right. The site would look so much better with a small black border like there is at the top of the screen. In other words, stretch everything out to make it bigger/fit the page more. 2+ Replies
TheMarc (December 6, 2009)
I like how you can see all of the comments. Looks good! Although that Superman costume change was a horrible, horrible idea. 2+ Replies

Another thing, maybe have an edit option like at digg.com, where a person has a set amount of time to edit his or her comment. 1+ Reply

I used BETA for a while but switched back for one main reason: I miss the record label icons. Bring those back, and maybe fix the background, and I'll be fine. Also, band of the moment should definitely be higher up. Like where contests is. 6+ Replies

My sister just asked for Ratitude for Christmas. Not looking forward to going to the store and picking that up. 4+ Replies
jackcramp (December 6, 2009)
I like it. I MIGHT have to agree and put the "band of the moment" higher up. I thought that was a cool little feature.
kirbypuckett (December 6, 2009)
I dig design, but something about the navigation bar at the top isn't sitting right with me. 2+ Replies
nick_s (December 6, 2009)
The new site looks pretty cool, Agree with the above though, could do with a bit of a stretch, but the rest looks ace.
iamgodsongs (December 6, 2009)
i actually like it the best of any of the versions so far. kudos, punknews.
ashleymhale (December 6, 2009)
I like it! Did anything ever come of my idea to sell anniversary tshirts?
nocomply (December 6, 2009)
Congrats punknews! Nice work! 1+ Reply

Hopefully, like Superman, everyone will realize how completely unnecessary this change was and go back to the original. 4+ Replies
baldsteve (December 6, 2009)
Fixed width is fine. As for subject headers leaving, I know you aren't a message board, but it was easier to keep up with stuff like navel gazing.
raveneffect (December 6, 2009)
For the most part,I like the new layout, though I could do without the adds, but thats to be expected. Nice job org. 1+ Reply

joeg (December 6, 2009)
Why was the the section with the news headlines on the right side removed? It was much easier to peruse through the last few days worth of news just looking at the headlines. Now you have to scroll through each day to get caught up on old news. 6+ Replies
HumanUnkind (December 6, 2009)
Not much of an issue, but does the fine print bit need to be at the top? Would be less in the way (not that it's hugely in the way) at the bottom of the page. 3+ Replies
scarysmurf (December 6, 2009)
There is about an inch of screen that is not being used on my left side of the screen. Why? 2+ Replies

Deadpan (December 6, 2009)
Having to go to the top of the comments to add one yourself is kind of annoying. But is that a leftover from the old design? I already can't remember. 2+ Replies
Cos (December 6, 2009)
I know this may be asking a lot, but will there be a mobile version that you can make comments on? Dig the new design though!
Centrics_Design (December 6, 2009)
Really like the new design. Sleek looking. From a design perspective, I would sat that the story headlines are a touch too large. It's a bit imposing. Other than that, I really like it.
heybarmold (December 6, 2009)
My only complaint actually... i don't like having every reply displayed out, i kinda liked the old style where replies were condensed into links, so when a successful troll has a 15 message exchange with someone i don't have to scroll down for days to get passed it. Just a thought. Otherwise I like it. 1+ Reply
bradc930 (December 6, 2009)
Pretty cool. I prefer this way. This one is more pleasurable to look at, but I miss the placement of Band of the moment.
kylewagoner (December 6, 2009)
New look, just as many Weezer and new Alkaline Trio/Anti-Flag/Against Me! haters. What do you expect on a site full of kids who grew up listening to music telling them they can say whatever they want?
swiftjustice (December 6, 2009)
the ad on the top goes all the way to the left of the page when the punknews section doesn't, it looks pretty weird. 1+ Reply
RondoMondo (December 6, 2009)
I feel like that sidebar width is way too wide. Otherwise it's a pretty clean layout.
letthebeatdrop (December 6, 2009)
i like this new set up. i think the org was in long need of something different. glad that its up and running finally!

All in all, I like it, and I think its cool that you guys aren't content to stay stagnant, but there are some minor things:
westofwaco (December 6, 2009)
One thing I liked with the news stories was having the appropriate label logo there too... It kind of drew my attention to those labels/bands that I cared about the most.
puncanoes (December 6, 2009)
version 5 is a beta than version 4.
Hubitcherkokov (December 6, 2009)
It's different, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I remember during the last design change I was confused as to why the top corners in the story box were rounded and the bottom were sharp. Clearly got over that.
rebeccaa (December 6, 2009)
I DIDN'T GET TO SAY GOODBYE.

something i've always wanted is the ability to search punknews on firefox via the upper-right hand search box that can search google/wikipedia/ebay/etc. 3+ Replies
Misanthropee (December 6, 2009)
Looks slick, but I feel like there's tons of wasted space everywhere. Huge pictures and headers, small text and empty patches everywhere. The site barely takes up 2/3 of my screen width now. I'm using FF 3.5 on Linux so it's possible it just looks odd for me, though. Plus I'm using NoScript and Adblock which might account for all the empty space. 3+ Replies

I was just talking with a friend about how Punknews needs to have the older news linked at the bottom of the front page. Nice. I agree with the bit about the boarders. Totally too large and unnecessary. Just dead space. Also, I hate the rotating feature bit. It's too flashy and ADDish. "Band of the Moment' already put too many ugly images on the main page, now they're rotating. 1+ Reply

Is the idea of the "happening now" ticker to have links that don't necessarily need a full story posted? I like it, but it would be cool if there was also a separate page so you could read all of them together instead of waiting for it to update each time.
Blackjaw_ (December 6, 2009)
My suggestions:
-Bring back comment editing, without that whole '/ bug though. -Move or remove the ad at the very top of the page; the site would look significantly better if the Punknews banner reached the very top. -Further separate the buttons on the navigation bar, or give each one a fixed width regardless of how many characters are in it. -Keep or change the black bars on the side... personally I don't mind them, it all looks good to me. -Decrease article headline size. -Give options for comment appearance format. -Move the body text of articles over further from the image, as I think Kirby or someone said. -Make the 'report a bug' part of the navbar white instead of yellow. -Possible 'quick reply' box for comments at the bottom of the whole comment section. -A page with a list of recent articles by headline only, to show rest of comment
KurtTGS (December 6, 2009)
I think it's a little too crammed now that it's got the black on each side. Maybe offer a stretched version, please? Also, I reaaaaaalllllllllyy miss the old headlines on the bottom right side. It helped me keep up with the stories I missed. 2+ Replies

Superman is a circular narrative in many ways where he kind of sums up the human race in a time capsule.

This is fun. Gonna miss the snarky comments in the title. The text feels teeny-tiny, but maybe just because I'm used to the larger. Good job, guys. Seems like a pretty smooth transition.
veganboyjosh (December 6, 2009)
dunno if you guys are still checking this for feedback, but i've got some.
i don't personally go all that many places on the org. i never really did back when i worked at my office job, and it's even less now. i mostly come here for the commentary on the stories. i'm a little bummed about the subject lines being gone. the side conversations were some of the best. i also vote against the black borders on the right and left. i think if you made them the same cobalt blue or light grey as the rest of the page, the black wouldn't be so...prominent and obnoxious. i would also vote against editing comments. i really like the sort of archival quality of a message board that doesn't let you change what you've written. if you're going to post something that you may want to change, think more about it before you post it. there show rest of comment
victim (December 6, 2009)
When logged out, fixed width works fine in the comments section
stevejonestherealbones (December 7, 2009)
constructive criticism....not really..maybe. anyway, not sure what you were going for with superman there...that redesign didnt last long and kind of pandered to the XtremEnt generation that was developing in the 90s...i think you guys should have went with spawn getting a bigger boot, more rips and spikyer spikes

friokir (December 7, 2009)
man, I really liked the review layout the old version had, with the cover n' stuff being on the right hand side. it was awesome. now it just looks like every other site out there. iit's probably only me, but it somehow makes it uncomfortable to look at. bummed.
MonkDave (December 7, 2009)
I don't like it. But that's because I have a 24 inch widescreen monitor, and the old layout fitted itself perfectly into the screen which was awesome. This is less than half the width of the full screen, centred. It looks like something from 6 years ago. Also, the typefaces look like a bag of shit in Safari.
swiftjustice (December 7, 2009)
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I think the happening now section should have a back button. A bunch of times already I saw a headline i was interested in, but by the time I was ready to click on it it was gone.
Shogun (December 7, 2009)
I like it - the comments are much easier to read. Nice work and happy anniversary Punknews!
victim (December 7, 2009)
So to get to the "My Account" feature you now have to click on the tiny link that says "logged in as.."?
PAc (December 7, 2009)
Don't know if these glitches have been mentioned, and I'm way to lazy to check if it has. First one I noticed is that when you unmaximize a window (I use Ubuntu and cannot for the life of me remember what unmaximize is in windows speak) or if you use sidebars, the round corner that's located at the top right of the banner gets pushed to the top right of the nav bar. Second glitch, is in the postcomment page. Below the nav bar, everything overflows to the right, so that you end up with a black bar to the left, but the content keeps going to the edge of the screen on the right. | Features
