i got that Our Time Down Here album the other day, and it's PROPERLY impressive. anyone who likes lifetime/kid dynamite/the steal etc. will LOVE it.

that guy from silverstein's list reads like he learned what bands he was supposed to like from Pitchfork but his picture and his own band suggest that he's never actualy heard half of them.

I just know it's great background music for reading and writing. But if you can spin one of their records, give it your undivided attention and enjoy it in and of itself, your resting heart rate is probably around 30. Maybe lower.

Then again, I love Sunn O))), so who am I to talk. Were I to make such a list that album would definitely be tops.

They make really catchy pop songs that actually have depth to them. That being said, I didn't think MPP was all that awesome. I think it sounds a bit too garish. Strawberry Jam and even last year's EP have a much dirtier sound that suits them better.

I like Dave's list. I think The Pains of Being Pure At Heart record is great and all, but I can't put it that high up. However, Dave's record Intersections happens to be my number one record for the year followed closely by Shook Ones and Morrissey.

The guy from Silverstein has the best list. This band is pretty perplexing. Their bassists is a huge HWM fan, and this guy seems to have really great taste in music, yet they play in Silverstein.

happy to see this is a standoff, propagandhi, pulley and fake problems up there. the new broadway calls was a good choice as well. overall, not bad choices.

The above comments seem really naive to me, suggesting that some of the lists are lame for being too indie or belonging on pitchfork. Although a few of the albums on Jordan's list are pretty cool, the bottom line is that the best new records that are coming out right now are not punk rock albums. With the exception of Propagandhi, none of the punk albums that came out this year are doing anything new. The Swellers, Strung Out, This is a Standoff, and Pulley all made decent records that just as easily could have come out in 1999 than 2009. Animal Collective, Mew, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and others in the indie persuasion are actually developing some new ideas. Although I'm no fan of Silverstein, Paul's list looks the best to me here. At heart I'm still a punk rocker, but I'd love to see that genre go somewhere new in the coming decade.

I can honestly say that the Swellers and TIASO records are much more progressive than anyone may think and that they couldnt of been released back in 1998. Pulley make the same music they always have made on purpose, and thats a good thing. The last thing punkrock needs in bands to like fuckin Thrice to just go ahead and abandon it so they can put on plaid and be cool "Indie" rockers, fuck that shit.

The abundance of ignorance thats just steaming off your post like a heat on shit is astounding.

While I'm not a Thrice fans by any means, their last album they put out is solid. I'll never understand the notion that bands should be restrained from creativity into trying explore new ideas.

And I whole heartily agree with sweetser. With the exception of a few bands out there, punk as a genre has become so stagnant and boring.

@crashtester, i do enjoy the new swellers album, but it really reminds me of "more betterness" by NUFAN, which i think is almost exactly 10 years old. and although thrice may have abandoned the "punk rock" genre, they are doing some cool stuff, and still put on an incredible live show. i'd be more into them if they had retained more of the punk roots, but i think that kind of experimentation is important for rock music.
