Fueled By Ramen Records recently posted a live video of The Swellers covering the Rehasher song "Lift!" with Rehasher vocalist Roger Manganelli. The Swellers and Manganelli's other band, Less Than Jake, recently wrapped up a tour together; the Orlando stop of said tour was reviewed here.

What the fuck is with Swellers crowds? Not a single show I've been to has the crowd been into it except the one time they covered Linoleum here in Corpus and about 5 or 6 of us went nuts.

I've never seen the Swellers live, but I bet the crowds are usually bored and lethargic because the Swellers are boring.

i get the impression some of the crowd don't realise that's Roger from the headlining band.. good cover though, swellers rule!

Jesus, what the fuck is going on with that crowd? Sooooo not excited for anything. Also, what is up with the Sweller dudes having the exact same lame "legs spaced, slight body movement" going on? That's like the most non-commital movement in music today. Love "Lift!" as a song, but man this post is filled with huff-a-duff.

swellers deserve more than 17 comments, so here's mine.

ups and downsizing grew on me. after initial disappointment, i was able to accept it for what it is, a really fucking catchy pop record with some great moments and a few forgettable moments (these are in the minority). the end of "feel better yet?" reminds me of a slow-style bigwig song mixed with something off of pinkerton, which is killer. definitely happy i bought the record.

i would also like to add that i'm not totally in love with the production on ups and downsizing. i don't know much about production, but if i had to venture a guess, i would say too much compression and too much meat in the low-end. for a mid-tempo/fast record, it feels a little sluggish and doesn't give the instruments much room to breath.

still, one of my most listened to this year.

yeah it sounds awful compared to my everest, especially the drums. really strange cause it was done with the same guy. i think it's the mastering job but i have no idea. listen to "this is my everest" and then "sleeper" and the difference is huge.

yea, i prefer the production on my everest. while it's a little smaller and thinner, it's crisp, bright, and allows the instruments to breath. i find ups and downsizing to be dense, heavy, and huge, which can sound good, but not for fast songs, in my opinion.

i can't tell if they made an intentional effort to mix something that would fit in on the radio. my guess would be no, but i wouldn't fault them if they did. no harm in trying to make a living.

In defense it was only about half full at the time. The Swellers were the first band, and Cage still had yet to go on. Personally, I was stoked to see it. I was at the Rehasher CD release show w/LTJ a few years ago, and this was my first time since seeing a Rehasher tune live (and one of my faves to boot). Good times.

It was one of those "I'm glad I was here to catch this" moments.
