Punknews has had the "Punk, INDIE, Metal" catch phrase from the beginning.

I had mohawks for years. Triple mohawks even, in every color of the rainbow. But now I'm old and a homebody. Heh. Cymbals Eat Guitars is more punk (meaning explosive, dynamic, raw, expressive) than anything you're rocking, I'll bet. It's all a matter of opinion so whatever. When I started writing for punknews in 02 my favorite band was Lagwagon, but that was a looooong time ago.

Not to be offensive or to slag them, but if your musical tastes are more in tune there than here, wouldn't it make more sense to write for them?

Greg0rb's list is my favorite of the bunch. The Cymbals Eat Guitars album is of my favorites released this year.

Also, I didn't know it was a pre-requisite for only liking certain bands to post on this site. God forbid that someone actually have a varied taste in music on this site without getting bashed by all the "PUNX" here

i'm a HUGE Big D fan (see my 2007 list). i hope to hear them try something different from their Fluent in Stroll direction soon. it was an interesting experiment but can't compare with any of their previous releases.

See I loved Fluent In Stroll, it reminds me a lot of the direction The Specials took for their second album.

However, Big D has already stated that they plan on going in a more hardcore direction for their next album.

I just think this band doesn't want to make the same album twice.

I'm all for not making the same album twice, but I kind of wish they would pick a style to develop beyond mediocrity. As it stands, Big D's catalog is like a collection of debut albums from a bunch of different bands. The effort, heart and potential are all there, but the songwriting isn't up to snuff.

Also, Pin Points and Gin Joints. As the resident ska superfan, this is the album you should be getting behind.

Ah, that's a good list. Liked all of those albums, some better than others. I'd put Cormega up higher but that's just me. But Raekwon and K'naan are by the far the tops. Not enough decent west coast/gangsta rap this year. It was all crazy auto-tuned madness. Disappointing. Maybe next year.

i am happy to see such outrage over the lack of Future of the Left.
i really hope it makes the punknews reader top 20 this year.

I also got an 8GB ipod touch today and I think it's fine.

I already have a cell phone, and already have a 30GB mp3 player, but I wanted the apps, web browsing, etc. At home and at college there's good wifi, and my ISP has free-for-customers wifi set up almost everywhere, along major streets, in parks, malls, etc. I already jailbroke it and it's a great device.

I got that Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band album like 7 months ago, and still have not listened to it.
I really don't know why.

I didn't either, for a really long time. Then I started listening to No Heroes, then You Fail Me and eventually everything else.

The new record might be my favorite by them.

I don't really think they're hardcore though.

No not list creation. But the mention of a single band that's at best mediocre on almost every list. Now if they were mentioned on one or two, that's normal to have a few variables of bad taste or gullibility. But they've been on maybe five I think? When much better bands are going largely unmentioned. Yea, I'm going to call bullshit on that. Have I mentioned that I sat through The Con in its entirety? Which is said to be some of their best work. So it's not like I'm uneducated on their sound and direction.

When a band you dislike gets only a couple mentions, you say it can be chalked up to bad taste and gullibility. So why are you wondering why the bands you do like are getting so few mentions? Doesn't a simple application of logic reveal that in this particular situation, you happen to be in the minority of gullible folks with bad taste?

For the record, my tastes are probably more in line with yours than with any of these lists. I'm just not sure why you're acting the last line of defense in a hipster invasion. People submit a list full of orgcore to project one image, and a list of non-orgcore to project another. It's all ego-driven, just like the entire music industry. So long as there's nothing sinister involved, just let people be perceived the way they want to be perceived.
