Alkaline Trio announce artwork and track listing for 'This Addiction'

Along with a pre-order, Interpunk has posted some revised cover art and a track listing for the highly anticipated seventh album from Alkaline Trio, This Addiction.The full-length is due out February 23, 2010 and will be the band's first for their own Heart & Skull, an imprint of Epitaph Records. The record will follow up the band's lone major label release, 2008's Agony & Irony.

Yeah, I know what you guys mean. Although, I remember Give Up The Ghost's heart was made out of those little heart candies, whereas this one is clearly made out of assorted medications and drugs. Not saying that makes a world of difference, but given the album title, it appears to be likening a relationship (undoubtedly a sour one) to that of a destructive drug addiction. The resemblance is undeniable, but this at least appears to have an appropriate message behind it to match the music. Give Up The Ghost's album cover was merely cute and sarcastic. I doubt it's an intentional ripoff.

Either unintentional or a purposeful twist on the Give Up The Ghost's album cover, with a darker meaning behind it. The idea of the heart shape is nothing special in my opinion (seeing as the heart and skull is the Trio's logo and also, the themes for the album includes love), it's whether the music is good that is important.

i also dont like how theyre switching from songs about alcohol to songs about drugs. switching from alcohol to drugs will leave you high and dry.

like some of the song titles, though.

I hate it when people talk about "alcohol AND drugs". The only reason why alcohol seems different than drugs is cos it's legal, and this because of some stupid and completely irrational laws. Alcohol IS a drug, which is why I love it.

I've only been a casual fan over the years but it always seemed that band tried to be spookier in their image and imagery than in their actual music. It always confused me.

...I mean, I know Dan and Tom are friends... so he could not have possibly overlooked this obvious song-title duplication.... (hopefully it's not ACTUALLY a cover)

However, I am still optimistic about this album overall tho... and I HATED Agony and Irony.

I will probably download it for free.

I like the Emergency Room stuff a lot, and I hope Skiba's acoustic record is good.

But the shitty Alkaline Trio material is about to outweigh the good. My count:

3 good records
1 decent record
(and with a little wager on this new one) 3 bad records.

And released in that order...not looking good fellas.

Seriously, anything related to the Alkaline Trio after 2003 isn't worth listening to, except maybe some of the Heavens stuff and the Emergency Room. I still have my fingers crossed for Matt's solo album, but with a creative title like "Demos" and all the recent Alkaline Trio stuff, I can't say I have high expectations.

I heard some live bootleg recordings of the new shit on YouTube. It actually doesn't sound that bad. But it will probably sound bad to everyone who posts on here, because they're all wayyyy too punx to listen to the Alkaline Trio.

Yeah what happened to that, did they stop using it? It was a universally recognized no-text logo, and that is a cool thing to pull off. HWM had one too... cant think of any others.

I don't know what everyone's getting so worked up about. Alkaline Trio has never been a band known for their album art. Seriously. So just wait for it to come out and quit your bitching. God, I hate punks sometimes. I also don't see what is so terrible about their more recent releases. Sure, I liked Agony & Irony less than anything before, but they played two songs from that record when I saw them this past year, so it's like...who really gives a flying fuck? FUCK I get frustrated...but I, for one, am stoked. I said it before and I'll say it again.

i can't imagine this isn't gonna be even worse than "Agony & Irony", which was horrendous. the song titles aren't that bad, but that obviously means nothing. i coulda named the shit i took earlier "the prettiest princess in the pretty princess land of unicorns and sweet candy", but it still woulda smelled like feces infused with rancid cottage cheese and pseudo-digested Honey Bunches of Oats.
