Media: Flobots with Tim McIlrath of Rise Against: "White Flag Warrior"

The new song from the Flobots features guest vocals from Tim McIlrath of Rise Against. The song is the first single from the alternative hip hop band's upcoming album, Survival Story. The track is available for sale and for streaming in a 30 second segment.

You can do both via iTunes. A sample can also be found on their MySpace page.

Huh. Don't know what to think about Flobots. In general, I think some of their shit is cool, and I want to like the hometown group, but this is no bueno.

Goddamn, this "band" is fucking terrible. "Handlebars" is one of the worst fucking songs of the past 10 years, in every genre. The rest of that album is total crap as well.

I'm sure many people here have been giving the finger to Tim since late 2003 when Rise Against announced their signing to Dreamworks, but I've dug everything they've done since, including Tim's other guest spots (at least the ones I can think of).
But this? This is nothing but garbage. After years of a "thumbs up", I finally want to punch Tim, just once, in the face.

My thoughts exactly. I've defended post-fat rise against until this. No more. Sorry tim you just lost a fan(presumably more than just me)

Let's see, this song, and Flobots for that matter, delivers the same anti-war message that Tim has expressed throughout all of the Rise Against years. Maybe Tim is friends with these guys? Maybe they support the same causes? Why not cross genres to band together for the same cause?

To lose you as a fan over this is probably a good thing. You were obviously never a fan to begin with.

I agree, I didn't like the last Rise Against album, but to abandon a band you like because the singer does a guest spot is ridiculously stupid. But I think think abandoning any band based on imaginary punk rock ethics is retarded unless the band starts putting out crappy music, I.e. green day, offspring, against me!...

Its not just this. Ok i may have spoken rashly. I posted based on general knowledge of the flobots before listening to the song. I see he is still in fact doing everything he can to spread the anti-war message. But there is other ways to do that which doesn't include riding bikes with no handlebars.

Interesting.Rise Against and Saosin are opening for Muse tonight.I don't think I'll enjoy Muse (except for the fireballs) but looking forward to see Rise Against.

i always saw tim as a poor man's zack de la rocha so a bad side rap project makes sense.

1- Zach De La Rocha is, generally, a poor man. RATM is beyond-overrated.

I don't understand the "poor man's" comparison people make. Does it mean that someone's music is for "poor men" and when used to criticise a band means that having a "poor men" fanbase decreases your credibility? Or does it mean that the words and music are "poor" as in "bad"?

Also, what bad rap side project do you speak of? One Day As A Lion are great, I mean look at those words, amazing.

And lastly (this might be what you were trying to say), I like Rise Against and Tim but seriously, Zack and RATM were much more effective and controversial when it came to politics and activism. I mean, they've done alot of great protests and have mixed music and rebellion much better, I mean, I've yet to hear actual politicians talk about Rise Against and criticise them. I think Rise Against are good, and playing their part in the movement, but with their platform

In response to your inquiry about the phrase "A poor man's_____". It's typically used to refer to something that serves the same purpose but is of lesser quality than something else. I.E. "How could you want X (the poor-man's version), when you could have Y?"

I take back what I said about Tim & Rise Against in my post above. They have done pretty good with spreading a message and their videos are usually really good. So, yeah. But everything else i said, I still back up.
