I always wondered what a glorified Paul Simon cover band would sound like if they covered a classic Rancid jam. Now I know. 1+ Reply

Why are they surprised they picked a song that undoubtedly got a lot of kids into music? It's not a stretch to think that the guys in vampire weekend got into music through punk and then branched out. Plus the song deals with with NYC (as much as I can gather at least). Rancid has been a band for a long time, the people at Abeano act like they're unheard of.

i think this is the first time i actually listened to them... they really do sound like a paul simon tribute band

I thought covers were suppose to sound kind of like the orginal. this cover blows. 4+ Replies

why do i get the feeling that these guys read a punknews message board about themselves and said "you know what would really piss these dorks off? if we completely butchered a rancid song."
TheGimper (February 8, 2010)
Wasn't their big hit "A-Punk"? I don't know what's more punk than that. 1+ Reply
Hasheesh (February 8, 2010)
I think this is pretty good. Then again, I think Paul Simon is incredible, so take that for what it is.
red_eye_inc (February 8, 2010)
They think they're "making it their own" when they're really just playing the EXACT same song, note for note, but without distortion. Sounds like a cover a high school band would do. 3+ Replies

Every time I hear about Vampire Weekend, I think about a Weekend at Bernie's. 2+ Replies

Not a fan, but then again I never really liked Rancid. 3+ Replies

so THATS what Tim is saying. VW version is soft and I can hear it on some crappy "easy listening" radio station like KOST 103 here in LA. 2+ Replies

Awesome, now if I can get a copy of T-Pain doing "Time Bomb" my life will be complete.
andron17 (February 8, 2010)
Maybe he should invest in that Tim Armstrong Gretsch. The guitar sucked balls in this.

I actually heard Vampire Weekend for the first time over this past weekend. I dig what I heard and I dig this too. 1+ Reply

also i think we can safely say that the only band that can make rancid songs sound good is infact NOFX. 5+ Replies
twstdbydsn (February 8, 2010)
wow, that band sucks so much, I think I never want to listen to the original ever again... thanks assclowns.

Run, Vampire Weekend! Paul Simon's here, and he's gonna fucking kill all of you! 2+ Replies

I hate Rancid so much, but I like Vampire Weekend so I can get behind this.
andimeanittoo (February 8, 2010)
seriously this makes me want to grab my nutsack and keep twisting it until whatever the fuck happens when you twist your nutsack beyond the point of no return. i've never felt like twisting my nutsack but that was the first thing that came to mind when i heard this god awful cover. seriously, that shit sounded like elevator music meets daft punk meets every shitty band in the 80's meets wanna be garage rockers meets "hey i'm artsy (but not really) let's fuck" type of people. seriously, they should be playing this bullshit at nordstrom with the in house piano guy playing the lead. excuse me while i go twist on my nutsack. 4+ Replies

NO NO NO!! That is the worst thing I have EVER heard!! Dammit punknews, for being a "punk" supporting website, you sure just provided people with the chance to hear a classic punk song just stomped all over with pop bullshit. shame on you. That song gets a -20 out of 10. Pitiful 1+ Reply

I like it. I'm not really a big rancid fan, and don't really care about vampire weekend. But I love Paul Simon. I going to listen to Graceland later today.
d_boons_ghost (February 8, 2010)
You're all a bunch of whiny bitchy bitch bitch-people. This is actually pretty good. A lot of you are trying too fucking hard to be punk.
mattbeall (February 8, 2010)
I can't remember the last time listening to a song made me angry. Fuck this very, very much. Blech.
SuperKing (February 8, 2010)
I like these guys but this cover is just not very entertaining, imaginative, or tolerable.
dev (February 8, 2010)
It has not been for lack of trying, but dear lord I just cannot get into these guys. I think listening to this cover has determined that I never will.
a_lan (February 9, 2010)
I personally like vampire weekend, other people have said it but i am pretty sure they were influenced by punk rock music. This isn't a great cover or anything. But they really did make it their own. Its a good song by Rancid, and its a nice song from Vampire weekend. What is quite odd is that whether you like it or not the band Vampire Weekend is spreading like wildfire. i mean its obvious. This post alone has over 100 comments, whether it be hate or love for the cover. They are a good band and will continue to do good things. 1+ Reply

Very different. Completely and utterly horrible, but different. I feel like I've betrayed my love of punk rock by listening to that track. | Features
