Ok this is going to be a long one....

The show was at the NorVa in Norfolk, Virginia. Most bouncers are assholes, but these guys are pretty goddamn mean. Everything was going somewhat smooth up until Jello took the stage. Our singer, Justus, wanted to go backstage to get something. We had special wristbands that gave us permission to be back there. Jello requested that he did not want anybody to be standing on the side of the stage during his set. This is understandable. It is his show and we were more than willing to accommodate his request. But to get to the backstage area, you have to walk past the side of the stage. Justus was walking past the side of the stage when the bouncer stopped him and he couldn't be here. Justus was like 'No worries, I'm just going backstage'. Bouncer says 'I dont fucking care, get the hell out of here. No one is allowed on the side of the stage' Justus says "Im in one of the bands, I'm allowed to go backstage.' Bouncer says 'Either get the fuck out of here or I'll escort you. Justus says "Fine escort me" in a very sarcastic way and then starts to walk away.

After he said that the bouncer took out a knife and held it up to him in a threatening way. He used the knife to slash his clearance wristband off. He did it in a motion that could have easily harmed Justus if he had tried to move. My two guitarist then ran up to the bouncer and he started flashing the knife at them and proceeded to cut off their wristbands in the same manner. Justus was also drunk (and underage) and the bouncer realized this. He began to chase after them. I saw them run by and they shouted for me to follow because a bouncer with a knife was chasing them. We tried to grab our merch, but by the time we had gotten to it, the bouncers dragged Justus off, while the others made sure we didn't follow him. They said we had 10 minutes to get out before shit got ugly.

We threw all of our equipment out onto the side walk and we noticed Justus was still gone. We looked through the window and they had him locked up in the front room. Justus told me that they forced him into a corner. He was in pain from the position he was in and when he would try to stand up, they would slam him back down onto the ground. They also took his personal belongings and began searching through them i.e. phone, wallet etc. They wouldn't call the cops because they would get in trouble for pulling a knife and assaulting 3 of my band mates and we couldn't call the cops because our singer would have been taken to jail.

In the end, we all got kicked out and didn't get the money we were promised. I feel the bouncers had no right to threaten us with a knife, even though Justus was drunk. I also just found out from a friend that a few months back the same bouncers bashed a kids face open with a industrial sized flashlight. The ended up suing the NorVa and they won. I wrote Jello an email and I'm hoping to hear a response. I talked to him before the show and he was already unhappy that the bouncers were being dicks.
