Videos: Slayer: “World Painted Blood”

Slayer have posted a stream of the new video from their 2009 album, World Painted Blood. It is a Slayer video so it's probably NSFW. At the very least, there is a giant pentagram and a walking skull-spider-thing, so I guess you can judge for yourself.

I'm a pretty big Slayer fan and I thought the new album was great.

But, this video seems more like it was created by an eager fan on a low budget than one by an actual record label. I hope they didn't spend a lot of money on this.

Reign in blood is a pretty cohesive album, but if you took out the tracks that aren't as distinctive as the "hits" and put them all on an album themselves, that is about what the new slayer album is like. It's way better than their late 90's stuff for sure.

Why is it that metal fans like to call punk guitarwork "too simple." Is it because metal has the occasional solo? This shit is all simple chugga-chugga garbage. About halfway through, they start adding some simple flourishes. Any Swellers song is more complicated than this in every way. And yes, I've listened to plenty of Slayer's work and was always left unimpressed. And yes, I'm a guitarist. I realize a lot of punk IS simple, but so is this stuff.
