He's severly overrated. "Survivor" "Fight Club" and parts of "Choke" have been okay but most of his other stuff is just boring and contrived. I think I got two paragraphs into a description of "pygmy" before I rolled my eyes and stopped caring.

True story:
I knew a girl who's boyfriend killed himself when he was 21 (he had a lot of problems but it was tragic nonetheless). We're all hanging out one day and my buddy has about a billion DVD's and we're talking about watching a movie. I suggest we watch Fight Club. She objects that her boyfriend had Fight Club playing on the TV when he killed himself. Never really enjoyed the movie after that.

I've seen more bro love for that movie than you'd want to believe. It's the only reason why I'm at a bar and when "Where Is My Mind" on the jukebox OR a cover band playing it, bros freak out just as much as they do with "Say It Ain't So" or "Don't Stop Believing". That movie and Fear and Loathing which they always miss the fucking point to what the story is really about.

Pygmy was one of the biggest pieces of shit ever, you have to read two paragraphs from a different book that isn't Survivor, Fight Club, or Choke to really give him an honest chance.

He is overrated, but so what? Why should a bunch of crazed fans make you hate on the source. For every Chuck P book I've been underwhelmed by, there have been three others that were great fun. It ain't Dickens but it's a far ways way from shit as well.

I've gotten the impression that most people who "love" him have only read five or six other books in their lives. And they were for high school English classes. "OMG liek, my favorite books are Choke, Fight Club, A Tale of Two Cities, and Beowulf..."

I have quite a bit a of Chuck to see what a lot of people were talking about. He's a fairly quick read. The only one I can say I still have an interest for is Haunted, granted I have a thing for its gimmick.

I hate to hate on Chuck, but his last few books have been really tough to get through. I really liked Fight Club and Choke and even Diary and Lullaby, and parts of Haunted, because a lot of the elements to the stories were way outside anything I'd ever give any thought. The last few books have been way too bogged down with his weird references and endless lists of things. The broken English ruined Pygmy, and what the hell is going on with all the pointless name-dropping in Tell-All? I tried, but I can't get through it.

1. I am (around) the same age as his kids. I feel dirty listening to newer Bad Religion.

2. This... "I've tried to keep them out of the limelight. I think they probably look at punk as an old style of music, but a very vital one. They know it's not "has-been" music, but they think that it's dad's music." ... is very disappointing.

It was an awesome show and good set, but I honestly thought they were going to play a set completely of stufff from their first four albums. I was a little disappointed by that fact alone, but I can't really complain too much because the show was great. I would have liked to hear henchmen, anxiety, change of ideas, the voice of god is government, and generally just more from the first album. The aggrolites were very out of place there too.

In your defense, he's got a history of contradictory statements. There are interviews where he talks about how it makes him sad that the logo they created when they were teenagers might pigeonhole them and prevent people from listening to them and hearing their message. Then, they spend the next decade plastering it on every piece of merchandise they make, so...
