Exclusive Preview: Mitch Clem announces Turnstyle Comics #1 featuring The Slow Death

Punknews.org is pleased to present an exclusive preview of punk cartoonist Mitch Clem's new comic-book and 7" EP series, Turnstyle Comics, published through Silver Sprocket/Facepalm Records.

Drawn by Mitch Clem and shaded by Nation Of Amanda, the first issue presents an original 40-page comic book illustrating some of The Slow Death/Falling Angels frontman Jesse "Swan" Thorson's craziest road stories, and includes a new four-song EP from Thorson's current band, The Slow Death.

The comic is printed as a 7 by 7-inch square so that it may fit along-side the EPs in your record collection, and includes an MP3 download card.

All pre-orders placed on the Silver Sprocket website will include an exclusive screen-printed bookmark, illustrated and signed by Mitch Clem and Nation Of Amanda. A song from the EP can be streamed from the pre-order page, with the first 500 EPs on blue and white colored vinyl.

Meh, NNTS was essentially Garfield with a punk theme and better art. The dude can draw for sure, but I don't know if I've ever laughed at any of his strips.

I want to vomit knowing that one grown man referred to another grown man as "Mikey Erg". And why does he draw himself explaining stuff so much? Is this whole thing just an excuse to drop names? It's not funny so I can't think of any other reasons.

He is telling a story that involves people you've heard of -- so what? It's punk rock, members of our scene are approachable by anyone so namedropping isn't impressive to anyone. We all know this.

"OMG I felt like a poser in front of this total super star visionary that no one's ever heard of!" isn't a story. Maybe if the name dropping was better it would be more impressive? I don't know, I've just always thought this guy's stuff sucks and is totally unnecessary.

I usually like Mitch Clem... but that was pretty damn boring. Hopefully the other "stories" are stories that are interesting in any way.

It reminds me of the time I saw Atmosphere with his full band in Duluth with my sister, and I sarcastically commented during the show to her, "Pretty cool that Questlove showed up!" cause the drummer looked mildly like Quest, and after the show she talked to him and said "I love your stuff in the Roots, etc etc" and looked like a huge turd...... See how uninteresting that is?
